Sadly... I have retired my phpBB message board after 19 years.
It got to a point that certain MODs that were very popular on my site were no longer maintained and would break when I would update phpBB. Since the rest of my site is WordPress, I moved to bbPress. Yes, not the greatest by any means. But it allows me to not have to worry about custom fixes when things break.
But I must thank this community BIG TIME! My membership here goes back to 2003, but I lost access to my original account when I lost access to the email associates with it. My current account goes back to 2006.
I have learned so much about running a website, back end server stuff, html, php, css... And it all started here when I clicked a button to install this software.
So THANK YOU to the phpBB community for all you have done for me in these 19 years!
you can run both on the same website without any kind of "bridge" at all.
just install them both in different directories. you can even share the same database using different table prefixes.
if you want to have them both share the users and/or integrate the theme/style then you might need some type of bridge.

You should talk to axew3 then, as you can see, he has successfully integrated phpBB into WordPress. The accounts on WordPress are linked meaning creating an account on phpBB creates an associated account on WordPress and vice versa. Same goes with logins.
