PhpBB Installation

Post by josephmacc »

Hey, there! It's unclear to me how I insert the PhpBB files and folders into my hosting provider's file manager. If anyone can be as specific as possible, it would help a lot.

The preferred method is with a FTP client like WinSCP.

If you have cPanel hosting control panel typically the cPanel credentials work. You can look into hosts documentation for specific directions.

It will be difficult to upload and install it using your host file manager.
quite often you can only upload one or two files at a time and there are over a thousand files included in phpBB.

you will need to download an ftp program and learn how to set it up to access your hosting account to be able to upload/download files all at once.

Knowledge Base - FTP

You could also have a play before you install phpBB. Get your FTP client working then go to one of the thousands of HTML tutorial sites and grab a free ready built template. Upload it to your domain using FTP and see how it goes, you can edit it and if you get stuck ask on one of the above sites. If you blow it up it doesn’t matter. You’ll find it all comes together, it’s not hard, using FTP is very much like using Windows Explorer or the Finder for Mac except that your domain appears like a drive would. You can browse, copy, paste, delete etc.
