upgrade to 3.3.8 having issues

Post by ukdude »

Hello,

I finally had to bite the bullet and upgrade to 3.3.8 from a previous version - 3.4 I think.

I took a backup, or so I thought and then upgraded, but got some assitance from my hoster.
When we upgraded the old DB was deleted and then we successfully installed the new version 3.3.8
So this turned out to be a a vanilla version of 3.3.8 with a new admin/password.

I tried to import the backup, but got this error
Table structure for table `phpbbil_acl_groups`
--

CREATE TABLE `phpbbil_acl_groups` (
`group_id` mediumint(8) UNSIGNED NOT NULL DEFAULT '0',
`forum_id` mediumint(8) UNSIGNED NOT NULL DEFAULT '0',
`auth_option_id` mediumint(8) UNSIGNED NOT NULL DEFAULT '0',
`auth_role_id` mediumint(8) UNSIGNED NOT NULL DEFAULT '0',
`auth_setting` tinyint(2) NOT NULL DEFAULT '0'
) ENGINE=InnoDB DEFAULT CHARSET=utf8 COLLATE=utf8_bin

MySQL said: Documentation
#1050 - Table 'phpbbil_acl_groups' already exists

Your assistance would be much appreciated.

There is no 3.4 (do you mean 3.3.4?)

Of course, you deleted the database!
But: if you deleted the database, you would have needed to create a new database for the 338 install

How was that database backup made? presumably without drop table statements.

The correct way to update (or upgrade depending on the version of your board : see Upgrade Guide

The question now is: Do you have a database backup and which version?
Spelling is freeware, which means you can use it for free.
On the other hand, it is not open source, which means you cannot change it or publish it in a modified form.

You should have a read of the Upgrade Guide for the correct update/upgrade method. If you can check your board version(s) (3.4 doesn't exist) we can be more specific on which one is the preferred method. Do you have a database backup you can use?

Thanks for your assistance I am upgrading from 3.2 to 3.3.8

I followed the steps outlined, and got as far as pointing to the /install directory but as soon as I do this, it says the following :-
Note I am pointing to where I installed it to https://www.frankenergywellbeing.com/LWS/install

Hmm. We’re having trouble finding that site.

We can’t connect to the server at www.frankenergywellbeing.com.

If you entered the right address, you can:

Try again later
Check your network connection
Check that Firefox has permission to access the web (you might be connected but behind a firewall)

Hello.

Did your domain name expire or the server crash? I don't think even a failed phpBB update would result in the server just not responding like that.

Interesting - I tried it again and I could access it.
I then clicked on the Update tab and it would not allow me to select the Update Database option - when I clicked on Update, it came up with the error below
General Error:SQL ERROR [ mysqli ]Access denied for user 'franking_phpbb5'@'localhost' (using password: YES) [1045] in file /home4/franking/public_html/LWS/phpbb/db/driver/driver.php on line 1023

Code: Select all

Awesome - thank you guys! It was a password issue.
But also I needed to follow the upgrade procedure properly and not the brief instructions that were givenwhen forced to upgrade whilst I was trying to backup.

You guys Rock! :D :D :D

I think I may have spoken too soon.

I was able to get into the forum, but I've tried again and I get the follwoing error
The connection has timed out

An error occurred during a connection to franksenergywellbeing.com.

The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer’s network connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the web
.

I've tried refreshing the page, rebooting my PC - but to no avail.
