Emoji's are broken [Fix available, see Announcements]

Post by P_I »

Update:
An intermediate fix for this is available: Intermediate fix for emoji loading issues

Original post below:
-----------------------------------------------------
Looks like [PHPBB3-17071] Update the emoji CDN - phpBB Tracker has become a reality.

Do there emoji's load properly here on phpBB.com?

Well.. not a huge issue i guess.. Seems it can be solved fast based on tracker description + there is this PR.

The challenge will be the effort involved if one wants to manually apply it because it says: "Files changed 3,693".

Looks like Twemoji's CDN is going to go down in a couple of days. You can use Twemoji's assets via jsDelivr instead.

New PR is based on the ticket above.

I was hoping to have a patch fix. Perhaps as an archive - .gz or .zip.

I'm not seeing P_I's emojis in the first post.

Update: They eventually showed up. (Viewed page later, no emojis.)

If you can install this very old extension, you'll get Noto emoji instead: https://github.com/s9e/phpbb-ext-noto-e ... to-install
I wrote the library that handles markup in phpBB 3.2+.

I thought MODifications were dead. :P

In all seriousness, thanks for the fix.

Thank you! After testing, I have implemented the fix on my production server and confirm the host domain change to cdn.jsdelivr.net.

Thanks team for the quick work.

I have edited the OP with appropriate BBCode around the maxcdn.com images that won't load. Once the patch is applied here it will allow the page to properly load without ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT from these images.

Click on the "quote" button in the top-right corner of the first post. You'll see the emojis displayed in the post edit area.

Previewing the post won't show the emojis because the patch has not yet been deployed in this forum.

The fix works fine, I applied it to a 337 board earlier and it now works as expected.
