php v8.2 for 3.3.9

Post by bikeridr »

Hi,
My host has released php v8.2.
I've set it as default on my mock forum (wich is more or less a clone to my real forum including all extensions and a few extra styles) and have not (yet) seen any issues.
Are there anyone who have had any issues with php v8.2 on their forums?
Asking before changing over on my real forum.

The phpBB docs (339) mention:
PHP 7.1.3+ up to and including PHP 8.1 with support for the database you intend to use.
This alone would prevent me from using PHP 8.2 for a board that is dear to me.

PHP 8.2 was released on December 5, 2022 with 8.2.1 released January 5, 2023
This leads me to suspect that there wasn't much time to test phpBB thoroughly with PHP 8.2 and I recall reading somewhere about something being broken (perhaps extensions)
Perhaps you could try it on your mock forum (at no risk to your live board) and forward any issues noticed.
Spelling is freeware, which means you can use it for free.
On the other hand, it is not open source, which means you cannot change it or publish it in a modified form.

Personally I would wait for the release of phpBB 3.3.10 to use version 8.2 of PHP
Sorry for my English ... I do my best!

Thank you both for replying.
Yes, I'm "stresstesting" my mock forum to see if something breaks.
My real forum runs on php 8.1 and will do so until I've had confirmation that php 8.2 does not wreak havoc.

Haven't had any issues with 8.2 yet, but of course it doesn't mean that there are none.. Time will tell)
