Long-standing issue

Post by Lost_in_Space »

It is attached in this post a problem with a friend of mine's long-standing webforum (would turn 10 years in 2023); however, this problem is also somewhat long-standing; his forum has been like this since December 2022, I think. So, a couple months and a little.

Since I have an account here and he doesn't, I asked him permission to present this issue to you guys.

Any idea as to what is happening and how he can have his forum back?

Regards. :)

The board software can no longer connect to the database.

If it was out of the blue, ask the hosts what happened.
If not, it's possible they changed the password so the one in the config.php file no longer matches the one in the database.

By hosts you mean the forum's admins, or the "server's" host (e.g. UOL, AOL, etc.,)?

Sorry for the very late response.

Yes, the server host.

If you have an access to the terminal try the following dump command

Code: Select all

mysqldump --no-data --no-tablespaces -u $dbuser -p --host $dbhost --port=$dbport --opt -r $dbname.sql $dbname
where

Code: Select all

$dbuser,$dbhost,$dbport,$dbname
are the corresponding values from config.php. You will be asked for $dbpasswd of course. This is very convinient way to test the database connection.

What's that, now?

The site's completely gone?

(Note to the admin: I posted that on the wrong topic...it is correct now...).

It appears the account your friend had at HugeDomains has been terminated for whatever reason. If he wants that domain back he needs to talk to them. I’m not certain it’s worth $7g though.

My formulation differs from yours, but only in the placement of 1 word.

I'm certain it's not worth $7g though.
Spelling is freeware, which means you can use it for free.
On the other hand, it is not open source, which means you cannot change it or publish it in a modified form.

"7g"? That stands for "seven grand", right? Which would be, 7.000 dollars?!

Is that correct?
