Want to translate language file

Post by darakhshan »

I want to translate the language file into Korean but how to do this?
Just translate every thing in En folder and upload it as kr ?
Or I need to translate other things inside expect for the language strings?

Have a look at e.g. Catalan / Català: version 2.2.10
Note that there are also files to be translated in /ext and in /styles (same structure as in the British language pack)

For Example, if you look at ca/common.php and compare it to en/common.php you will see only the text within => ' ', has been translated.

so if you look at line 55

Code: Select all

	'1_DAY'			=> '1 day',
has become

Code: Select all

	'1_DAY'			=> '1 dia',
Keep everything else as it is and use notepad++ to do the editing to avoid problems.

Also in common.php on line 45 you will need to change

Code: Select all

	'DIRECTION'			=> 'ltr',
to

Code: Select all

	'DIRECTION'			=> 'rtl',
as Korean is a Right To Left Language and that tells the board what to do.

Spelling is freeware, which means you can use it for free.
On the other hand, it is not open source, which means you cannot change it or publish it in a modified form.

While translating, sometimes it is possible that I make a mistake. In my case, how can I compare the string names only with the original English file? I have WinMerge but I’m not sure how to just compare this column as shown in this screenshot

Use just about any text compare program that shows 2 windows side by side, one for each file and marks (colour) the differences.
But you shouldn't be editing the English strings anyway.

I remember in phpBB2 if you missed a character or had any slight issue, you would get errors. In phpBB3, if there is any issue, how can I debug it? While translating, there is always a possibility that something goes wrong or I miss a character.

You shouldn't even touch the 'BUTTON_DELETE' etc ... (the left hand part).
If you compare the English language file to your translated file, the left side should be exactly the same but for added lines (if you have those)
