I'm looking to migrate a forum from SMF to PHPBB, my client has a concern that the posts will have different URL\'s after import and will affect SEO, is it possible to structure the URL's on PHPBB to match the URL\s from SMF?
Obviously the post and board ID's will migrate over but can the URL's be adjusted so they remain intact?
I'll be looking into using a conversion script to do the migration once I've settled on one.

Yes we're looking to move away from SMF and onto PHPBB and importing all the data, posts, users etc etc, tbh I'm not sure if migration is the correct term for what we're requiring but hopefully that explains what we're trying to do.
I get that the URL structures may be a bit of a tough call, thanks for answering that for us.
I'm also under the understanding that the change of URL's for posts etc will work itself out in the wash with Google eventually, my client id frightened of upsetting her Google rankings but I don't see any other way of doing it, like you say, Google will catch on and reindex things.

I feel confident enough to do the job if the script to migrate the content over works, I don't fancy writing one myself to be honest, I know it's just a bunch of sql queries but without seeing the differences in the database schemas I wouldn't know, will be fine if I can find a script that works and migrates data without any issues.
