A good forum related to Y2K clothing, a good idea?

Post by Keurth »

Hi everyone!
The other night with a friend, we were having fun looking for clothes on the net, especially grunge and 2000s to tell you the truth. We went on Reddit, but I find it's a pretty small space to be able to freely express your point of view, and on top of that, I don't know any big forum related to y2k for the time being. So, I would like to have your general opinion...

Should I start a phpbb site with my friend only about y2k clothes or about fashion in general? I've never done a forum before, if you have any advice, I'm really interested. Thanks to all

Welcome to phpBB

I would imagine that there are many general fashion boards so you will have a lot of competition. If there are no Y2K fashion boards then you may be the answer to a niche problem, or it may be that there is no demand.

Only time will tell

Hi.

If you decide to start a board, you must ensure that you have lots of content to add to it to ensure it gets indexed by search engines and that it interests enough people to jump in to discuss things.

Creating a successful board is difficult in today's time, but not impossible.

Go for it.
The set up cost is relatively minimal. Domain name and some server space (you won't need a lot as you can scale up as you go if necessary). If you can think of plenty to talk about then you and your friend can get some content going. Try and bring in other friends to say what they've bought or what's coming out (I assume!!).

I suspect general fashion might be tricky to get off the ground as I would guess there are already a lot of big sites on that, but a bit of research will tell you what the current forum market is like. If you get a lot of members you can then add more forums if people want to talk about other fashion.

Don't make too many forums to start with, 3-6 max. And spend the next 3-4 weeks posting every day with new original content and see what happens......

I just Googled “y2k clothing discussion forum” and, to be honest, there are a lot but I did see that y2k fashion is coming back :D

Hello again,
thank you all for your precious advice, I take note of everything you tell me to be able to better attack this small niche. There are more and more people interested in it on Instagram, I'll try to bring some friends from discord to start well. But, I would like to know how I can make Google put me first on "y2k forum". It sounds a bit complicated... Thanks again to all :D

If there was one easy answer to that everyone would do it. Then we'd all be top and there would be no reason for a ranking list to begin with.

It takes a lot of hard work building it up, making posts day in day out to get the content to get index and if that works, you'll gradually creep up the list. There's no easy magic bullet.

assuming that y2k is referring to the year 2000, what is different about fashion in 2000 from 1999 or 2001?

when I see y2k I only think of the insanity around the world worrying about airplanes falling out of the sky etc. when the computers
all failed because their computer clocks couldn't handle the change over.

The y2k bug made a lot of people a lot of money, it was basically a scam. The company I subcontracted for at the time had a team of five or six people at a major motor vehicle radiator plant for months and months checking things like light switches, heating timers and even battery powered stuff like remote controls to make sure they weren’t going to be affected. At every different company you visited there were gangs of people with clipboards. :D

No it wasn't. It's that most of the important infrastructure had the bug fixed before issues could arise.

We spent billions fixing the problem, so surely, it would not devolve to a point where everything major failed. It was also a time when society was capable of still coming together to resolve problems.

It did cause problems at a Japanese power plant: https://apnews.com/article/cd4e26efaa07 ... 507e7fac70 and a few other places.

Of course it was, you couldn’t move for new companies and websites with people offering ‘y2k bug fix’ services, they all knew there was no such thing and jumped on the bandwagon. They’ve all disappeared now probably to the Bahamas. I don’t doubt that there was the odd incident in the world but it wasn’t Armageddon as the y2k doubters would have had you believe.

That's Hollywood disaster movies and eccentric doomsday preppers looking for anything and everything that will "end the world."

Doesn't mean Y2K wasn't a problem.
