is 'manual update' option where I should be?

Post by abrogard »

I am just having a kinda screwed up upgrade of my site.
I posted about it in another topic
My config.php was empty. Something went wrong. didn't follow instructions correctly.
So when I used the /install/ folder it didn't work.
well my own ineptitude happily put a copy of that config.php in the root directory of the site where the board itself is supposed to be, and has been, in /phpbb/
I think I screwed up with the ftp the first time and got halfway through installing it in root or something.
Anyway: /install/ does something now, no error messages.
But it offers me an option of 'manual update' or 'advanced update' and when I look ahead I see manual update is talking about downloading files and uploading files...
Well I thought i did all that when downloading the update and all.... I thought I just did all that to get to here...
Have I gone wrong..? Or just continue... ?
The site is mblforum.com and the board is down at /phpbb beneath it, for avoid scam sakes...

In /cache, delete /installer and /production

in /store delete io_lock.lock and install_config.php

then navigate to /install and select database update

see https://www.phpbb.com/support/docs/en/3 ... radeguide/ for the complete instructions

So you mean do as you say, do not simply 'continue' as my screen offers?
or you mean follow instructions on upgradeguide linked to? because that foxes me from the word go because I no longer know if I'm upgrading from 2 to 3 or 3.3 to something else or whatever..

and I wonder what's going on? I was following upgrade instructions. it seems to me that it had me download a complete new install fileset or something like that. then I had to delete files out of the download and delete files onsite and then upload to site...

I wonder how come I am where I am now and what is the planned or the usual next step here ?

Or is it clear I've become a special case by screwing up somewhere?

Surely you know which major version you're using as you've posted in the 3.3 support forums before
