Thank you, gentlemen.

I am aware of this information. I was under the impression that there was an additional option/ext that would allow me to do this easily.

Up to phpBB 3.2.5 a db-backup could be downloaded using the create db-backup feature within the ACP instead of it being saved in /store.
I'm not aware of an extension that offers the feature of downloading a db-backup.
Spelling is freeware, which means you can use it for free.
On the other hand, it is not open source, which means you cannot change it or publish it in a modified form.

Easier? Using FTP right click and download in fact, I think, if I double click any file it saves it to my computer automatically.
