Support Ticket Software Options

Post by durangod »

Hi, i saw the ticket tracker extension in the abandoned extensions section, thats a shame it was a popular thread at one time.

I also checked out the software that phpbb uses but that is way too fancy for me.

Can anyone suggest a good ticket system that works well with very small dev team (5 or less) and is affordable. Even open source is doable if its a safe alternative (some of them look very scary under the hood). I also am thinking about maybe just setting up a ticket section in the forum itself under its own category but not sure if that is the way to go or not. I would prefer to keep the ticket system isolated from the phpbb board if possible but i am open to suggestions.

I remember way back in the day in the early 90's i used osTicket, even set up some mods for it, but not sure if anyone uses that around here or not.

Thanks :)

You should make an extension request in the meantime, it costs nothing and someone may build it for you or take up Kaileys extension.

Have a search there are a couple of mentions like this viewtopic.php?t=2501671 and I take it you don’t fancy https://www.atlassian.com/software/jira?

Thanks for the links, yes i will do the ext request. I like jira but it has tons more features than i would ever use, it seems designed for a larger team with lots of volumn so most of the features would just never get used. But what really made me decide against it was their implementation of AI as part of their package.

I dont want to change the topic but here are my thoughts:

Im old school so AI is something i am trying to avoid, that is something for the next generation to deal with. Im sure AI is going to find me eventually if it has not already is some small fashion but if i have the option to avoid it i do. My feeling is that AI is going to bite humanity hard one day if we dont provide protection along the way and i dont see that is really the case. What i see is that people are boldly charging up the hill to be the first one to captcher the flag while others add it to their projects and noone really knows how it really works. Even the creators admit it does things that they have no clue how it does it, to me that is very dangerious. I am not saying that we should not venture into new tech, but to just toss it in place and see what happens, to me is not the right way. But as i said that is for the next generation to worry about, i wish them luck.

Compatible: Joomla 3.9.0+, Joomla 4, Joomla 5

Unless I'm mistaken, the request is for a phpBB forum

I know, I doubt he'll find anything.
I just presented a workaround and if you need login integration: https://alterbrains.com/joomla-extensio ... pbb-bridge

I've been using this extension for many years without any problems.

Rather than start a new request i just commented on the old request and requested someone take it over.

I also know there are some very simple third party dedicated bug tracking softwares out there. I think bug tracking and ticket system are essencially the same with very subtle differences, maybe i am wrong.

I have broken it down to one of the following for my needs, your needs may be different.

Bugzilla vrs OsTicket

OsTicket is leading, ill try that first as i did use it many many years ago 2007 i believe, but boy has it changed from its infancy (in a good way) wow!

Well i might uninstall osticket for now. I found out they are in the process of developing a version 2.0 that is pretty much an entire rewrite.
We all know what typically happens to a current version when this type of thing happens in the industry. The current version fixes get put on the side.

After i installed osticket i had page after page of warnings from php 8.1. I was told to just set up my error reporting to block them. Well my feeling is that they would never do such a thing when they were young and hungry right. When i build something as i am at the moment, it has 0 warnings, 0 notices, 0 errors and at release it will be the same. To me that is just taking pride in your work.

So i have no proof, however i feel they decided to just hide the warnings so they can focus work on 2.0 instead of fixing the issues with the current version. It has happened so many times in my experience, i hope i am wrong but i dont think i am.

Bugzilla is out because its written in perl.

So i shall continue to look... :)

You could always use a basic forum setup or use GitHub to track issues.

Hi, thanks for the suggestion. The problem is that i dont 100% trust github. Some have told me that github itself is a virus, although i have no proof of that. I was told that many years ago when i had a development site set up on github and and i was updating github repository directly from my pc. Several Devs i really trusted told me to get my stuff off github and never trust it because github updater was a actual virus. I have never trusted them since. Now as i said i have no proof of that but im just saying FOR ME and MY STUFF, i dont trust them. I think i am still afforded to right to share my experience on here without getting my nuts cut off. :)

GitHub is a service that is owned by Microsoft. It is not and never has been ‘a virus’. Anyone saying that is blatantly lying and I have no idea why. That’s a wild accusation, really.

When I think of all the extension developers using GitHub, the knowledge in the shit with their computers full of viruses it sends shivers down my spine.
This legend undoubtedly exists but a long time ago.

Search for ‘GitHub virus” there’s quite a lot of interesting reading.
