Hello SSi,

Question where did you find: http://www.transformationsbyrori.com/phpBB3/index.php ?

I looked at pages in the website and those I looked at are: https://www.transformationsbyrori.com/phpBB3/index.php

Hello SSl,

I now suspect you found: http://www.transformationsbyrori.com/phpBB3/index.php by using view page source while on the phpbb3 login page. I don't know where in the phpbb3 software to modify the URL to https. Nor do I know what file within phpbb3 contains the url information. Do you know how to change the url information and if so then, share it with me?

Thanks for your help.

I am using a small screen laptop and it no longer displays. I accessed my 32" screen on my Area 51 computer and it does not display either.

You ask... extension settings have you defined the image for wide screens as well? I did not install the phpbb software nor configured it. Sorry, many questions: Where do I find "extension settings"? Further, are you indicating a larger image should be defined/used? And, where is phpbb looking (folder path) to in order to read the image file? Is it just a question of styling? Change the css information in common.css?

Last note, it does display on a smart cell phone.

Thank you for all your help it is very appreciated.
When I talk about small screens I mean smartphones and tablets only.
As you are using an extension there is no need to modify a CSS file, everything is set in the settings of this extension. As this is a CDB extension here is the link for support: https://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/exte ... er_banner/
Just click on the Discussion/Support tab and open a topic.

You can find the configuration of this extension here: ACP > GENERAL tab > Board Configuration > Header Banner

There's the User guide and Knowledge Base

3.2.3.1. Cookie settings

Configuring SSL on phpBB

BTW the header banner is showing up now. If you can't see it, you probably need to clear your browser cache.
Spelling is freeware, which means you can use it for free.
On the other hand, it is not open source, which means you cannot change it or publish it in a modified form.

Hello SSl,

Thank you for your post.

You may have noticed when viewing the view page source of the phpbb3 login page there are two lines of code presented in reference to the logo/background. One is for larger screens (tablets and PCs) and the other is for cell phones. You will notice the target URL for cell phone sized screens has the word mobile in it; http://www.mobile-transformationsbyrori.com...

And, a second thank you for including the image shot of the Header Banner screen and URL for support. As I stated at the very beginning of this posting, a second problem I have is in the ACP with module labeled Header Banner as it fails to launch when clicked. Please refer to the second post in this topic for the text of the error message I get when trying to launch the module. Now that you have included a screen shot of the module I can see it contains the URL pointing to the jpg image file.

I did try uploading the headerbanner folder with all sub folders from a backup to the server (after renaming the existing folder) but, it still gives the same error message. So it's off to support and see where it leads.

I'll post again with the solution of failure to launch of the Header Banner.

Finally, I was able to implement a back door temp solution so now the banner does display on larger screens. Although, I still have to find a solution to the Header Banner module not launching.

Can't thank you enough for your valued assistance. This last post you placed gives me the best opportunity to move forward.

Try disabling the header banner extension, and then delete data (both are in the ACP, tab Customise >>> Manage Extensions).
Then re-enable and configure the extension.

Also, support for phpBB 3.2 will end sometime in August so you might as well start preparing to upgrade.

At the same time forget your version 3.2.2 of this extension to use version 3.2.4 for your current version of phpBB.

Hello,

You both are so great, thank you.

I found the Header Banner extension in Customize so I will disable then delete data.

Also, I already downloaded 3.2.4 Headerbanner extension and extracted the files. Next I will disable and delete data, then delete the Headerbanner folder from the server and upload the new Headerbanner folder. Then enable it and complete the configuration page.

I'm holding my breath...

OOOPS....

I disabled and deleted data then deleted the folder from the server and uploaded the replacement folder. Enabled Header Banner. So now I went to the tab General and clicked on Header Banner and got... zip. The same error message as before.

I'm lost. Though in Customize / Manage Extensions under Header Banner it does show the revision level is the newer module 3.2.4.

http// redirects properly to https:// but your cookie secure is still set to false. (I take it you managed to edit the .htaccess)
Just in case, the address of your banner image address should also be https:// ...

Hello warmweer,

You wrote, Just in case, the address of your banner image address should also be https:// ... not sure what you mean. On the server the address to the image is https://. Whats not there any more is the information the Header Banner had in the module. Since I deleted the data the banner no longer displays either on a tablet or a cell phone. I'm four steps back from where I was. In the index'php as viewed using View Page Source when on the phpBB3 site there is no longer coding instructing where to find the website, no http:// anything. The delete data took care of that.

Out to dry in the wind...

So, something else must be a foot. Some other corruption. Any thoughts?

Update, very frustrated at my end. I elected to upload a backup of the phpBB3 in order to at least get the banner working again. Up load went well, banner is back up with a little hacking to make it work, don't ask.

Conclusion, even though the module Header Banner won't launch and the configuration screen never appears the configuration data is still there. Alternately, the phpbBB3 software is out of date. A upgrade to 3.2.11 (a small step just to resolve the Header Banner not launching.) If an upgrade works it saves a lot of head scratching by all and Message Board down time. I'll give it some thought.

No, update to version 3.3.11, as already said, support for version 3.2.x will end in August 2024. Take the opportunity to upgrade to version 3.3.x by then if you still want get support here.

https://www.phpbb.com/support/docs/en/3 ... upgrade32/

For phpBB 3.3.11 the minimum PHP version is 7.2 or higher

Hello SSl,

My concern is in the past when I asked the hosting company to change the php support level they somehow permanently deleted all the html files. It was a nightmare getting the site back up. To upgrade to 3.3.11 I will have to ask again to change the php support level. And, yes I'm looking to move the site to different hosting company.

Thank you for your recommendation. I may just grit my teeth and upgrade to 3.3.11 and forge head long into battle. I have planned to perform the upgrade this coming Monday and I'll post here late Monday with the results.

Oh My Goodness... update for all.

In planing the upcoming upgrade to 3.3.11 for tomorrow March 18th I thought it best to backup the database. Good idea but didn't work when I tried to import it. The administrator at hifikabin.me.uk, the folks who made the Header Banner module suggested I read the, How to move your forum to a new host. I learned about Big Dump and how to use it and the need to create a new database name to import to. Success, the backup database works very well (had to modify the config.php file to point to the new database).

AND... while I was in the middle of all that I looked around in ACP for a place to set the new database name for phpBB3 to find it. There isn't a place, one edits the config.php file. But, and here it is.. while looking around in ACP I clicked on Board Settings in the General tap and low and behold the screen that comes up is labeled Header Banner and there are the settings to change the http:// to https://. I was clicking on the menu choice Header Banner in the General tab thinking that is where to go to configure the URL to the banner image files. But it didn't launch just an error screen. I was in the wrong place the whole time. Though, I'm not sure just what the Header Banner in the General tab does.

Bottom line the banner works well and I can safely fall back to a backup database should something go terribly wrong with the upgrade.

I thank both SSl and warmweer for such good advice and giving lots of help. These two are the ones that make phpBB3 successful.

I'll post an update after the 3.3.11 upgrade.

Thanks.
