(SOLVED) need some group permissions help please

Post by brenwa »

Hi

I want to create a group that when logged in, they can view and post but cannot message, email or directly contact anyone within the forum

I have done some searching and made a run at it and the group currently cant view or post & Im wondering what I did
that is preventing that?

Im not sure what switch to flip.

thanks :)

You don't need to add in permissions to view and post. They'll get those from the registered users group that they're already in (and will stay in).

You just need to set NEVER permissions for the things you don't want them to do.

It's under permissions tab >> Group permissions link under the Global Permissions heading.

There is going to be a role assigned to each group, edit the role for each group so it's "no"

You can also just set the registered user group's role to never but I believe that would prevent yourself from using those features.

This needs to be NEVER. If there's a yes permission from the RU, that will not stop it.

All users of a board must be in the Registered Users group. Setting permissions to NEVER in this group is dangerous if a member becomes moderator for example, the NEVER permissions remain priority over YES or NO

I could of been clear and said "Including the registered users group edit the role for each group so it's "no".

As I noted the issue with setting the registered users group to never is this is likely going to remove those features from everyone including the admin/moderator group. Of course if that is the goal then go for it.

Hi.

So, these users cannot view the forums, topics, nor post in them? Did you remove those users from the 'Registered users' group in addition to putting them in that special group?

Because removing users from the 'Registered users' group is usually not a good idea.

Do you want this at the group level or board wide?

If board wide then there are some settings in ACP->General
  • In Private message settings you can totally disable the PM system if you wish.
  • In Email settings that might help. Check out the settings for Users send email via board: and Hide email addresses:

There is already a User role of No Private Messages that could be helpful. The following two screenshots show their settings.

  • Misc tab

You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
