Convertor from YabbSE to phpBB

Post by df8oe »

Hi to the whole community,

I am planning to purge my old YaBBSE 1.55 forums but want to migrate the contents of these to phpBB. I have already dug phpbb.com, but did not find a list of available convertors. Search engines do not push me to a solution, too. And searching this forum does not get a useable result for me. I took a look at SMF and I compared it to phpBB and my decision is "I want to migrate to phpBB". Can anyone push me in the right direction where to look and what to do? At the moment I have done a fresh install of phpBB 3.3.12 and it is running fine. Now I have 5 YaBBSE forums (and their mysql databases) where I want to migrate users, passwords, boards, posts, and pm's to phpBB...

Any help is welcome

From what I read now it's SMF: https://www.yabbse.org/yse_history.html

I doubt you are going to find any convertors, as the last release was 2004. And if you are going to find any, it will be to phpBB2.0, making it very hard to convert as you will need basically 20 year old server software as well.

That would not be the problem. My server is running php-fpm and I can use each php starting from 5.6 up to recent 8.3 per domain. But where can I find converter from YaBBSE to phpBB2.0 ?

phpBB 2 only supports php4 officially, but i think there was an unofficial version that did support php5.
To be fair i cant remember if there was back then a convertor. The best thing you can do is search the old phpBB2 forums to see if you can find anything.

The most realistic way would be to find a docker image with period specific php.You might try searching for dockers created by security researchers to test old php exploits. Then try converting to an SMF version that has a phpBB converter, for the yabbse to SMF(SMF is a fork of yabbse) https://www.simplemachines.org/communit ... c=581924.0 Then convert from SMF to phpBB.

XAMPP has multiple older versions available with older PHP versions. The trouble you might have is running it on a new operating system.

https://sourceforge.net/projects/xampp/files/

If you scroll down XAMPP versioning matches the PHP versions until sometime in 2014. I can't seem to find a list of what PHP versions are in the older XAMPP releases but they go back to the early 2000's.
