Mark topics as starred

Title/Job Description: I would like to implement the option to mark topics as "starred".

Detailed description of the tasks:

I'm looking for an extension that would allow users to tag or mark topics for themselves (so this will not affect other users). For example, it could be an asterisk, a color or something along those lines. Google Groups gives an example of this feature: there you can mark any topic for yourself as "starred".
Bookmarks are not suitable for this purpose, because when viewing the list of topics, the topics added to the bookmarks are not visually different from the others. I will be grateful for any ideas how to implement it, as well as ready to pay for the solution, if someone is ready to write a plugin.

Thank you for those links! However, it's not what I am looking for, because a user must be able to mark a topic only for himself... and those extensions allow to do that only globally... Here is an example of Google Groups, where you can mark any topic as "starred" in order to make it visually different, but only for you...

This only adds bookmarks in the "Quick links" menu... But it doesn't help me to distinguish visually which topics are bookmarked, when I see all topics on the board... That's why I am talking about "starred topic" concept in Google Groups, which allow me to immediately recognise marked topics while I am looking on the topic index...

I think the thing to do is this: Replace Bookmark with the name Starred, edit the html file to show the bookmark page as a separate page; and there should be a star button on forum pages and on the home page, that is, wherever topics are listed, so that they can be marked as starred and removed with ajax. If you're going to pay for it, ask for Ajax as well. The biggest thing to do is to make Bookmark available in lists on all pages, not just in topics. I think it is possible and reasonable to do.

You can use a thanks system and apply only to topics and you'll need to make more changes so its only for the user and to not interfere with others.

Or the ideal would be to use a premium extension called BookmarkPost, that basically adds a Star icon (similar to your asterisk idea) and enables every user to mark any post as bookmarked so you can see later in time on your UCP. So it is only for the user. The only change you need to make is to change to show to only the 1st post, so its a pretty simple change. (but you'll need to purchase one of their themes to get acess to the extension, but well, its the most easy way to acheive what you want quickly)
