[Split] What is the best way to add a favicon «site icon»?

My favicon only works in Administration Control Panel.
No idea how to fix it.

My favicon is 50px x 50px and when you try to resize it to 16px x 16px it distorts the image.
His 48px x 48px will resize in the browser and look fine.
His problem with his favicon not showing in his forum was because he had a typo in his favicon link. Giving wrong url.
