Otherwise, nothing will force a user to enter an @free.fr e-mail address, but, and if you have warned the members in question, plus an announcement publication on your board, then in this case they will not be able to complain never receive a notification from the board

They are already warned but do nothing.

It's easy.. Notify them about address change. If request will be ignored, just deactivate account until it will be solved.
All this is manual: I should regularly check the email addresses, notify the member, etc.

I am currently writing a script that unchecks email notifications for each member with a free.fr email address.
This takes place in the phpbb_user_notifications table.

Then you need to have a restriction functionality for UCP, because a member can go there and change it back to check for e-mail.

I'm not going to merge this with the topic from one and half years ago but for future reference please use existing topics you have started for same or similar issues.
janus_zonstraal wrote: Thu Jul 25, 2024 8:30 am And your mails are 100% correct?
https://www.mail-tester.com/
Make a account with that email address and test it.
Do this, it may or may not help solve your problem but it may highlight issues you are not aware of. Just because you are not seeing returned email doesn't mean they aren't being dropped by other providers. Many of the issues this service reports like SPF record minimally is the difference between the spam box and inbox. Others like reverse DNS issues usually results in the email getting dropped into a black hole. It's good practice to use a service like this occasionally to check for new issues you may not be aware of.

You can deactivate the users in bulk if you want. Users & Groups tab >> Prune users link on left. Just make sure delete posts is set to no and that deactivate is selected. Post a global announcement and give them a week to change their email address. Once deactivated they will only be able to contact you through email to get it reactivated.

I have searched in the forum but I didn't find mine (?!) and the ones I found were related to spam, not to provider problem.

What shlould I send to [email protected] ?

Use that to register an account on your forum and it will send registration email to the service. It's hard to get perfect test score and it may complain about the message. The big issues you are looking for is problems with SPF, reverse DNS and any listings on blacklists.

Sorry, I don't understand the goal.

Do you mean I should create a new member with [email protected] as email adress.
The board will send the registration email, the one you must click in to confirm registration, to this adress.
What will this prove ?

New members registers almost each day, the board send them the confirmation email, it works fine
except if the email is in the free.fr domain.
Same for notifications email : the board send them without any problem, except if it's a free.fr email.

Yes
The board will send the registration email, the one you must click in to confirm registration, to this address.
After that click on "Check your score" on mail-tester.com

Read the outcome of the test.

That isn't important, it just the welcome mail from phpbb.

So add the spf record to the DNS settings and try it again.

DNS records can take a while to propagate, usually no more than an hour or two but could be a day or two. There is no guarantee that will fix the issue with that service but a proper SPF can be the difference between email going to a spam box and inbox.

Hervé wrote: Wed Jul 24, 2024 3:00 pm Hi,
I always have problem when phpBB tries to send a mail to a specific domain namely @free.fr.
I can ban new registrations via Users and Groups - User Security -> Ban emails.
If I understand this doesn't change anything for already registered users.
Is there a way to ban their email...?
Yes, use the wildcard astrisk
*@free.fr
The entire domain will be banned, so they shouldn't even be able to complete registration and you won't be troubled with server SMTP problems sending to a fake E-mail account or even a real one using that domain name.

If you want to take it further to ban all domains ending in .fr, you could use (anything @ anything.fr).
*@*.fr
