Apple device issues?

Post by kronos1 »

Some of my members with Apple devices are starting to struggling to see pictures on my forum.

Any ideas what could be causing this, PC and Android users have no issues at all.

This is a comment from one of my users.

"Having trouble seeing images uploaded by others. Instead of the photos we see a blue box with a question mark inside? I’m using four different devices all with the same result. Apple support say that the problem is isolated to the forum and the tech guy I spoke with sees the same as me?"

What Apple device? Can you post a link to such an image so I can see please? I’m always curious about the use of the pronoun ‘we’, is this a single person reporting this issue for a few? If so how many, do you know?

A few (maybe 6 so far) have made similar comments, I think it may be due to an apple upgrade as some have no issues with Apple devices.

I have asked the questions to the member and with post back as soon as he comes back to me.

You may need to be a member to see the pictures in question? I can PM you a test login if need be.

Can you post a link to your forum with a public topic containing an image that won't load? It may be that macOS / iOS has some kind of block in place to prevent the images from loading. Safari has some fairly strict browsing protections in place that you can enable and it might be catching something unintended perhaps.

Images, but not avatars, load fine for me using Safari on iPad Pro running iPadOS 17.5.1.

Are the users that are having problems viewing images on your forum logged in?

I'm getting the following errors for each image in the console: Failed to load resource: The network connection was lost.. I noticed that images on that page that worked were hosted by a third party (imgur).

This is what I got when I tried to open one of the images in a new tab.

What are your permissions set as for the /downloads/ directory and also for the file.php file in the respective directory? I'm thinking it could be a permissions issue potentially.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Those are all images linked to third party site. The HTML validates on that page so my guess would be is there is security setting in the browser blocking third party files/images.

Edit, I just saw post about the third party images working.

Post this and ask them if it works:

Code: Select all

Avatars are not affected? What about image attachments?

Don't think its affect the images, but you have to redirect the http to https :!:
And after that, set the cookies setting to secure!

Sorry I have no idea how to do that.
