Area51 question answer registration

Post by postcd »

Trying to register at https://area51.phpbb.com/phpBB/ucp.php?mode=register because i can not post idea/feature request on this forum  .

That reg. page asks:
In the Area51 header, what is the first, third, fifth and seventh word after "Development Discussion Board" (seperated by spaces)

In the header I can see:
Development Discussion Board phpBB's testing ground of bleeding edge code

So I have expected the answer to be:
phpBB bleeding code
or
phpBB's bleeding code

but no :| . So what is the answer please?

UPDATE: admin changed the question and prefers answer not to be disclosed publicly.

You've missed out the third.

You should have 4 words not 3

Worse than before, I have not yet met worse, time wasting, user unfriendly question.
For the fifth attempt (which failed and it locked me out) I have tried:
Builds Dev Docs Discussion Home Projects Tracker Wiki
I hope that you will stop wasting the time of people who are trying to register. But maybe that forum is not for me, but then you should allow submitting feature requests and similar also on this forum.

The question on area51 reads as;
In the Area51 header, list the tabs in alphabetical order after the letter F (capitalization counts)
So ignore any tabs that begin with a letter that comes before F in the alphabet. So Build, Dev Docs and Discussion start with letters that come before F in the alphabet so you can ignore those tabs. You actually got the order right if you didn't include the first three tab names.

I'll be honest though I struggled with that question upon first reading it but I am a bit tired right now so my brain's not 100%.

In their defence though, with both questions you haven't read them properly and done what they asked.
You missed out one of the 4 required words in the first one and you added in words that it didn't ask for in the second.

The questions work fine but they have to assume people will read them carefully and do as instructed.

There are many ways to misinterpret the Captcha (on purpose or not) : I won't go into details but anyone with an IQ higher than 70 should get it right on the 3rd try at the latest: Even I solved the Captcha on the 4th try.
Spelling is freeware, which means you can use it for free.
On the other hand, it is not open source, which means you cannot change it or publish it in a modified form.

I'm not sure what to tell you. There are a few problems with this entire topic.
  • People keep posting the answer publicly (please don't!).
  • The teams manage/moderate Area51. Sending a PM to a team member would have been far more preferable.
The whole point of a Q&A CAPTCHA is to keep spam registrations down to a minimum. Part of this process requires critical thinking skills which spam bots do not possess. I've since changed it to another question and answer. If you have a Q&A that you think would be more effective, my PMs are open and I welcome suggestions.

We do actually. I welcome you to submit your idea for improvement to our phpBB Ideas section. I would still recommend trying to register at Area51 as most development discussion topics are posted there.
