3.3.11 to 3.3.13 question

Post by stoo23 »

Hi everyone,
I currently have a phpBB 3.3.11 forum running on Shared hosting which because of a slight disagreement with the owner of the shared hosting, I no longer have access to the C-Panel management facility.
I CAN still access the server via ftp though.

The forum has been running for some years and I have been the Admin' and basically, All is 'Tickety-Boo' :)
It has now been decided that I can completely take over ownership of the forum and move it to alternate hosting, which is fine,.... BUT .... Obviously, I Need to Upgrade to 3.3.13.

I am Not 'fazed' by this and am thinking it perhaps Best to upgrade before moving it to a new server but am perhaps concerned about no longer having access to things like phpMyAdmin etc IF something does goes wrong with the upgrade prior to moving it.

I guess I could install 3.3.11 on the new server ... but I can't find anywhere to download it from or should I choose to 'Patch' from 3.3.11 to 3.3.12 then 3.3.12 to 3.3.13 etc ?? ... is there even a 3.3.12 to 3.3.13 Patch ??

I do have recent Backups, (made via the ACP as I don't have access to C-Panel) but am unsure how to restore everything IF it should fail without that access.

Just looking for advice / assurance etc really ;) :D

You can get older versions here
https://download.phpbb.com/pub/release/3.3/

I'd be inclined to move it as it is (because you know that's a fully working version) an then update on the new server with the 'full file' update (assuming no coded edits are in the files).

Thanks for that, much appreciated.
I thought that would have been the Safest way to go as well but was unsure about getting the older version to install.

There are No 'Coded' edits in the files,.. I Have Only changed Some of the Font Sizes, which I can always re-do :)

Thanks again.
