No HTML or CSS has been written yet. We’re still working on the colour palette at the moment. I agree there’s nothing exciting happening yet, but that will change when we have something worth sharing.

The important thing here is letting people know that a new style project is underway as I know plenty of people were concerned that there wasn’t any work happening with a v4 style.

Other than some things that been added over the years Prosilver is mostly HTML4/CSS2 from 2007, the new style will be leveraging HTML5/CSS3. I wouldn't expect any groundbreaking changes with new style like you had when Prosilver replaced Subsilver but that is not the intent.

I'm already expecting a change to the new style for phpBB 4.
What's the use of just changing the core and it still doesn't look anything on the outside.

I'm excited to see what you make of it.
My contributions are translated from German to English by google. This can lead to misunderstanding.

Hi here

I hope you'll reduce the number of colors significantly.
approx 70 colors to manage in a single style is really too much. ;)

Aside from black and white there won’t be more than three to four core colours. Part of the new style includes creating a brand style guide that strictly defines where and why colour is used so we’re not just chucking colour all over the place. 👍

Couldn't really distinct a sharing idea and a feature request, but as an idea, it'd be nice to have better image attachments view in posts (in case of numerous images), ideally having thumbnails grouped f.e. Whatsapp-like, so a user shouldn't scroll meters of a topic page to see them all.

Definitely a core feature request but certainly something we can account for during the build phase to make any kind of improvement easier to implement, sure. 👍

Grouping by file type would be nice, I looked into implementing it myself on my forum and it appeared there was going to be many conflicts to resolve.

I wanted this because I completely redid how attachments are handled with the HTML. Containers use flexbox. Thumbs are confined to max width and height. As semi workaround for the files I use large icons in place of the thumbs. The one issue is the comments. A balloon will appear on the bar, I reused the CSS/JS from drop down menu to display the comment on click of the balloon.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Just curious, are there any Figmas or designs drawn up that give a hint at the direction of this style refresh?

No, not yet. We’re still working on branding right now but I’ll be sharing that when it’s ready. It will take time and isn’t something I’m wanting to rush.

I assume you'll be using CSS variables for the basic colours. Hopefully the minimum number of variables you need, and sanely named so people don't have to guess what they do ("clever" code names that obfuscate purpose for the sake of a few bytes are one of my pet hates).

Suggestion: Do not use hex or RGB codes for colours. Apart from simple cases like black and white they're non-intuitive and generally a PITA.

HSL is easier to use, despite the well-known inaccuracies with regard to colour perception, but it's still a poor option these days. LCH, or OKLCH, are much better and already have wide support. We can expect P3 and Rec2020 displays to be more relevant in future, so future proof the default CSS.

Christmas has just come and gone so no work was done on Neptune recently as I’ve had other things to do, but of course you understand that. ;)

I’m hoping I can start to share assets and progress in this month and some HTML can finally be written.

It’s not lost on me that with what happened with Chameleon people will be very keen on seeing progress made on this project to assure them that something is actually being worked on and they’ll be a product at the end of it all.

Please rest assured it’s still on-going and not canned already. Neptune will see the light of day. Just not right now and today.
