danieltj wrote: Fri Feb 07, 2025 4:56 pm No sorry. I haven't done anything style related in months because I've been busy with other things.

I'll share something when I have something to share.
That shut that topic right down. Officially closed?

There are loads of style authors on here that would love to make a new style for phpBB ... If you are busy, ask for help!

The project isn't closed.

Look, I get that people are frustrated with the progress of things but the hard to swallow pill is the majority of the community would much rather see the minority do the work and reap the benefits rather than pitch in to help. The proof is when people say there's a bug or something wrong here or there and can't even be bothered to spend 2 minutes to open a ticket, much less fix the issue.

If I was getting paid I'd drop everything and spend my entire day working on Neptune but as I'm a volunteer (as with everyone else), I have to prioritise other things that actually make me money. I don't mind volunteering on phpBB work, it's why I'm here but it does mean progress is not going to be anywhere near as fast as people would like.

That's good to know. I'll send you a € as payment.
***looking forward to Neptune (not the planet) being available tomorrow (next week is also fine)

No idea who and how this project is even being managed at this point but there are many grants that fund open source projects.

Has anyone tried applying to those?

Edit: but thinking about it..what's the innovation here? We're just re using most of the same tech stack with a new design? that's it?
How are we winning users back over with that?

Wondering and asking as I'm confused. We lost MANY users. Is a new design the solution right now?

I keep on hearing/reading that ... but are there any realistic statistics?
e.g. https://trends.builtwith.com/cms/forum-software

phpBB is 7th in the list with 338 sites (and to think that I've done some work on at least 50 phpBB boards that would imply that about 15% of all phpBB instances passed through my hands

and

https://trends.builtwith.com/cms/forum- ... e-Internet
phpBB is 9th with 4134 >>> 9th place? I wouldn't know about that, but again : 4134 phpBB boards?

Yes, I know of some boards having moved away from phpBB, but then again I know of some boards having migrated from Vbulletin, SMF to phpBB

It would be really helpful if we would have a sketch of the new style so we can contribute. I can definitely give it a try if I have an idea of how the style should look.

You can make it look like anything. More important (IMO) is the underlying structure. Get that right, then customisation becomes a lot easier.

Do you think Twig could strip the HTML from prosilver and just reveal template variables? Skeleton of prosilver?

I’m not really sure to be honest. Every template needs to be completely rewritten though because there’s no consistency at all so it’s best to start from a blank slate and just look at what template variables are available. Probably worth making a list of anything you might want changing after the fact too like removing unused variables and changing stuff to fit the design and so on.

TBH I hadn't even thought of that, and am not sure how it would work. What did you have in mind?
