How to embed a YouTube or .mp4 video in a post?

Post by DereckSmith »

I just installed phpBB 3.3.14, and phpBB Media Embed PlugIn (exmediaembed 2.0.2). I followed the below instructions:

"Once the extension has been uploaded, navigate in the board's ACP to Customise -> Manage extensions. You should see your recently uploaded extension listed under "Disabled Extensions". Simply click its "Enable" button and installation is complete!"

But I don't see the extension "exmediaembed" listed. I even don't see "Disabled Extensions".

Any insights on this? How may I try next?

Thank you!

Where did you upload it to?

It should be in the /ext/phpbb folder like this

It looks correct. Do you have a founder account to install extensions with?
Are you sure the contents of the mediaembed folder uploaded correctly?

Mine looks like this

MediaEmbed_Capture3.JPG
I installed a few other extentions - they show up on the list fine. The Media Embed one does not show up on the list.

I use the admin account. I tried both FTP and File Manager to upload the "mediaembed" folder - no difference observed.

Not sure why.

The Media Embed plugin is working now.

What happened earlier was the .zip file I downloaded was corrupted. I downloaded and installed the plugin again, the unzipped folder has more files than the one before.

Thank you, everyone!

Congrats on figuring it out.

If you want a hands-free way of embedding media and social media, you can also install Magic OGP. It provides a slightly different look to untagged links just dropped into topics, which can be refreshing from a diversity standpoint. Any site URL dropped into a post that's on a site that supports Open Graph Protocol, will be automatically converted to a social media looking link box. The shape generally is that of a rectangle and often contains an image from the OGP supporting Web site too.

It might be worth looking into, just to see if you like what it does for your site.
