Post making registration fields required

Hi, Is there a way to force certain profile fields, both the standard and custom fields so they have to be filled in?

Not sure about the default profile fields but a custom profile field can be set as required.
Spelling is freeware, which means you can use it for free.
On the other hand, it is not open source, which means you cannot change it or publish it in a modified form.
