New Install First Sign In

Hello

I've just installed phpBB using Ionos Web Server. My new Forum fires up ok but when I try to Sign in I get the You have specified an incorrect username error.

The Credentials I'm using are:
Username: admin
Password: Web Server Sign in Password

Is admin not the initial Username?

Or is there an alternative initial sign in Password that I should be using?

If you installed through hosting control panel you'll need to contact your host. We would have no idea what it is. Becaue of issues like this we recommend you install it by yourself instead of through hosting control panel. The recommended procedure for installing phpBB is here:

Using this method you set the username, email and password for the admin yourself in the first step.

That's a bummer. I was seduced by the "one click install" temptress!

I'll ask the host support.

If I rename the phpbb folder to phpbb_old would I then be able to do a fresh install properly using the same domain?

The Ionos Support sorted me out.

Apparently the log in User Name has to be all lower case. Not seen that before.

That is not the case at all as illustrated by your username here. In addition to that the login is case insensitive. You can login with GraemeAstro, graemeastro or GrAeMeAsTrO.

Strongly suggest you delete the installation created through the hosting control panel and manually install it yourself.

Just delete the folder, in the hosting control panel use phpmyadmin to delete the tables the panel install created. Presuming they are using default table prefix it will be phpbb_ That will completely remove the installation. When uploading the files downloaded here the phpBB3 folder can be named anything you want, forum for example. If you want to install in the root of the domain upload the contents of the phpBB3 folder.
