My Board Won't Load

Post by ghostlady »

Hello, my board will not load today. It just spins and then finally times out with a 500 internal server error. I contacted my server team and they see nothing blocking it. How do I go about debugging this?

Code: Select all

works
but

Code: Select all

returns 403 Forbidden
Spelling is freeware, which means you can use it for free.
On the other hand, it is not open source, which means you cannot change it or publish it in a modified form.

A 500 error does not occur overnight, what have you done recently that would have caused this error?

Yes, there was a typo and you figured it out. I decided to do a full install, saving the required files. When I go to do the install, I am getting a timeout error. Image

My forum is over 20 years old. I have never had a problem like this. *pulling hair*

Look inside the FTP for a file called "error_log", usually is inside public_html or directly in the phpbb root folder. You can also have a look for an option "errors / error log" inside of the hosting's control panel (cpanel/hpanel/plesk etc)..
If you cannot find the file, ask your hosting provider for it and then you can post the log with the errors here.

Part of this is fixed. The php version I was using on the server expired a few months ago. So I upped it to 8.0 and the update ran. I got a message that it could not find the update directory and updated. It showed the update completed successfully but now the forum still won't come up. How do I fix this?

Who knows how broken the current situation is???

MY suggestion: restore the last working database backup in fact your complete board and then update using the full package (or the changed files package.

Works for me, it's just disabled in the board settings

So, the board will come up but if you click on anything it just spins and spins and finally times out. This is after an install of the full package. It is acting the exact same way as prior to the upgrade. Has anyone had this issue?

Can you see this as a large number of bots on the bottom of the board? Is this something the server team would be able to identify?

Try cloudflare its free. i had over 100k hits in an hour from bots . i switched my DNS point to cloudflare turned on my BoT attack fighter for free and my site is running smooth.

what is crazy is AWS who is who i use and other web hosting platforms should of already been on top of it. crazy but thankful for this phpbb message board being available for solutions huge company’s don’t proactively fix. probably because they want to pay for more server space (which i did) or firewalls. thank you phpbb for the help.
