[ABD] AJAXed 0.0.1

Post by wGEric »

AJAX is more than something you would grease your wheels with or something you would find in the bathroom. It allows you to perform actions on your site without having to refresh the page.

Download alpha 0.0.1

Do not use in a live environment. 0.0.1 has a serious security exploit in it.

Current features are
  • Inline post and subject editing when viewing a topic
  • Lock/Unlock a topic by clicking its icon when viewing a forum
  • Preview posts without refreshing
  • More to come
It requires javascript to be enabled to work. If you have javascript disabled, everything will be done the normal way.

I know AJAX can be extremely powerful in both dynamic styling and on-page loading, so would it be possible to load dynamically some of the more useful information originally off-page, at a click of a button?

For example, the profile button. One click, and a summary of the users profile could slide out, for viewing, without page loading.

I would just like to know something if I may, I never figured out if AJAX is a piece of code or an algorithm, rather a way of coding something ?

AJAX = Asynchronous Javascript and XML

Very cool, wGEric. :) I look forward to this.

The functionality I'm looking for was gone over in your preliminary list. The normal "Your post has been successfully submitted" page is annoying.

Also, maybe a signature preview right below what you enter in your profile, continually updating what the signature would look like. Or, maybe that should be separate... :?

Yeah, but you can already get rid of that...

True. However, that redirection MOD requires a minor page refresh IIRC. If Ajax were utilized here, it would be a near-instantaneous page change. You post something, then in a split second, you see your post in the topic view.

Swizec: Try reading this.

Very nice. I'll definately have to plan on using this sometime in the near future. One thing I noticed however is that when you disable smileys and bbcode in the post it doesn't appear disabled in your preview. Great job nonetheless. 8)

It previews without reloading the whole page. That's all for the moment. And you only notice an difference the second time you preview.

Thats all you can see at the demo site. I'm not going to make people moderators at my site so if you want to try out the other features (inline post editing), you'll have to install the MOD at your own test site.

Nothing is different at all. I tried double clicking, and a bunch of other things, but nothing happened. JS is enabled and I am using FireFox.

P.S. I am downloading it so that I can see how it is all done and what it all is and such.
