Account Activation doesn't work...

Post by jonlai9 » Thu Oct 20, 2005 12:19 am

Hi, I have a forum installed with phpBB but somehow when a user signs up, the email verification doesn't get sent to the email address, I have to manually activate each member myself. Any thoughts?

Lots of thoughts, but sorting them out depends upon the error messages you're getting, whether or not you use SMTP, who controls the server configuration, whether or not you're getting bounce messages, what addresses the people are using for signing up, etc.

Why not start with the Support Request Template?

The thnig is, people are signing up, but no activation mail is being sent to their inbox to the email address that they signed up with. I tried making some test accounts myself and they were right - I didn't any activation email either.

Is it necessary to setup some kind of mail server or something? Becuase if so, I didn't do that. I set up phpbb via Fantasisco, if that helps.

Confirmation Email

Post by cvalentine » Thu Oct 20, 2005 10:42 pm

The same thing is happening to me.

After 10 people successfully registered for the message board, suddenly new registrants are not sent the confirmation email. I registered a 'test' member (with a unique email address) but never got the confirmation email. Nothing has changed in the configuration since people registered successfully. Any suggestions?

I don't know. I don't believe I've changed anything, so whatever is set to default, is what I'm using.

edit: I just checked, I said NO to smtp server. Am I supposed to use it?

I recently had to reinstall phpbb. I get the same thing. No emails for new accounts. The previous installation I did would kick out the emails. I pretty much took all the default settings in the installation. I never set up any SMTP stuff.

Really the easiest way to solve this problem is to route it to a external SMTP server; ie your ISP

eg

click yes on the box and then enter

smtp.myisp.com
yourispusername
yourisppassword

This usually works
