Do you have a database backup?

You need a 100% backup (a backup of all tables) or there will be database dependency errors.

You'll lose all new posts and topics, that is inevitable, you have no other choice at this point.

This topic should explain it all:

Stooooooooooop. Wait a second, you can partially rebuild your phpbb_groups table. You will lose all custom groups but you will keep everything else. I'm looking for the code, I posted it here in the past.

Here it is, you have to execute this in phpMyAdmin:

Code: Select all

DELETE FROM phpbb_auth_access;
DELETE FROM phpbb_groups;
DELETE FROM phpbb_user_group;

INSERT INTO phpbb_groups (group_id, group_type, group_name, group_description, group_moderator, group_single_user) VALUES (1, 1, 'Anonymous', 'Personal User', 0, 1);

INSERT INTO phpbb_groups (group_id, group_type, group_description, group_moderator, group_single_user) SELECT user_id + 1, 1, 'Personal User', 0, 1 FROM phpbb_users WHERE user_id > -1;

INSERT INTO phpbb_user_group (user_id, group_id, user_pending) VALUES (-1, 1, 0);

INSERT INTO phpbb_user_group (user_id, group_id, user_pending) SELECT user_id, user_id + 1, 0 FROM phpbb_users WHERE user_id > -1;
Note that you will also lose all special permissions: access to private forums and moderators. The auth_access table has to be flushed because you can't guarantee that groups will keep the same group_id.

You should consider backing up the first three tables before you proceed but in your case I suppose it doesn't really matter anyway... ;)

If your groups table was phpbb_groups your must have a phpbb_auth_access table. If it was phpbb2_groups the auth table is phpbb2_auth_access, and so on.
