MOD Validated/Released

Notes:
Automatically shortens long URLs in posts so that they do not extend 60 characters in length. For example,

Code: Select all

[url]http://www.yoursite.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=5825021[/url]
will be displayed as http://www.yoursite.co...opic.php?t=5825021

Seems the same as this, but a MOD in the MODDB is always cool 8)

Just a quick note that this is Easymod compliant and will install against any version from 2.0.19 through 2.0.21.

I have been running a variation of this on my board since 2.0.11.

Enjoy, y'all.

When installing it with EasyMOD V0.3.0. on phpBB 2.0.21 I get the following error (in the final stage):

DEBUG MODE

SQL Error : 1064 You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 's/autoShortenURLs.txt', 'Auto Shorten URLs', '1.0.2', 'nfs', 'mechanic@financial' at line 2

Any idea what is wrong?

I have found out what the problem was... There was an apostrophe in the filename (my own fault) and EasyMOD had problems with that. It now works fine!

One note however: this MOD only works when you do not use the [url] function. If you do that, the entire URL is shown... Maybe this can be changed?

Best regards,

I'll take a look but I have to say that, on my board, nobody brackets urls with bbcode unless they want to name a link using [url=...]. They just drop the link in as they post and that's what this MOD fixes.

Yes, that is true. This is done mostly on my board too. I just wanted to mention it to other users / downloaders of this MOD.

You have to make sure that the tags are not used. Does this solve the problem?

If it isn't working for you, I would like to fix it.

Can you post (or PM to me) a url over 60 characters long that this MOD won't shorten?
