index_body.tpl help

Post by peter » Thu Dec 07, 2006 6:20 pm

I made a big mistake...:(

I edited the the very bottom of the index_body.tpl to simply remove the 3 post icons.

This is what I removed:

<tr> <td width="20" align="center"><img src="templates/subSilver/images/folder_new_big.gif" alt="{L_NEW_POSTS}"/></td>
<td><span class="gensmall">{L_NEW_POSTS}</span></td>
<td>&nbsp;&nbsp;</td>
<td width="20" align="center"><img src="templates/subSilver/images/folder_big.gif" alt="{L_NO_NEW_POSTS}" /></td>
<td><span class="gensmall">{L_NO_NEW_POSTS}</span></td>
<td>&nbsp;&nbsp;</td>
<td width="20" align="center"><img src="templates/subSilver/images/folder_locked_big.gif" alt="{L_FORUM_LOCKED}" /></td>
<td><span class="gensmall">{L_FORUM_LOCKED}</span></td>
</tr>

However, when I put it in my forum, i can't see any threads...Im left with just a header and footer.

I re-edited the index-body.tpl and put it back , thinking it would restore the forums but no go....

Can anyone help me out? much thanks in advance...

Using dreamweaver...

i just opened it up removed that script above, hit save (after saving a backup), thinking it would simply remove that small section.

And Dreamweaver singing : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Syoq3GZkMs

Time's to restore your index_body.tpl backup (and maybe other files, as Dreamweaver is able to screw files you didn't even opened with).

did you search for this here

Code: Select all

<br clear="all" />
</td>
<table cellspacing="3" border="0" align="center" cellpadding="0">
That is exactly where you should start your

Code: Select all

<tr> <td width="20" align="center"><img src="templates/subSilver/images/folder_new_big.gif" alt="{L_NEW_POSTS}"/></td>
<td><span class="gensmall">{L_NEW_POSTS}</span></td>
<td>&nbsp;&nbsp;</td>
<td width="20" align="center"><img src="templates/subSilver/images/folder_big.gif" alt="{L_NO_NEW_POSTS}" /></td>
<td><span class="gensmall">{L_NO_NEW_POSTS}</span></td>
<td>&nbsp;&nbsp;</td>
<td width="20" align="center"><img src="templates/subSilver/images/folder_locked_big.gif" alt="{L_FORUM_LOCKED}" /></td>
<td><span class="gensmall">{L_FORUM_LOCKED}</span></td>
</tr>

then end it with

Code: Select all

</table>

i mean IF that above removed code is EXACTLY what you cut

ps basicaly even if youve modded stuff into read around your mod tags like mine has top posters
after the br but it starts a table and ends a table within that other table
so no issue realy.

But basicaly look for that clear all
and then IF your TR tag was where you cut it and your END TR
was where you stopped cutting the above should work for you

heres mine as of right now

Code: Select all

<br clear="all" />
</td>

<!-- Begin: Top Posters on Index -->
<table width="100%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1" border="0" class="forumline">
<tr>
	<td class="catHead" align ="left" colspan="2" nowrap="nowrap"><span class="genmed"><b>{L_TOP_POSTERS}</b></span></td>
</tr>
<tr>
	<td class="row1" align="left" valign="middle" width="100%"><span class="genmed">{TOP_POSTERS}</span></td>
</tr>
</table>
<!-- End: Top Posters on Index -->

<table cellspacing="3" border="0" align="center" cellpadding="0">
  <tr>
	<td width="20" align="center"><img src="templates/subSilver/images/folder_new_big.gif" alt="{L_NEW_POSTS}"/></td>
	<td><span class="gensmall">{L_NEW_POSTS}</span></td>
	<td>&nbsp;&nbsp;</td>
	<td width="20" align="center"><img src="templates/subSilver/images/folder_big.gif" alt="{L_NO_NEW_POSTS}" /></td>
	<td><span class="gensmall">{L_NO_NEW_POSTS}</span></td>
	<td>&nbsp;&nbsp;</td>
	<td width="20" align="center"><img src="templates/subSilver/images/folder_locked_big.gif" alt="{L_FORUM_LOCKED}" /></td>
	<td><span class="gensmall">{L_FORUM_LOCKED}</span></td>
  </tr>
</table>

Not sure about dreamweaver etc.
I ONLY strictly use notepad for ALL my editing or writting needs when it comes to web design. Sorry
That was the only tip i had for you. Maybe if you are not way into the modding
and have the site not open yet etc just upload a new .tpl ?

Other then that im done on this topic sorry i couldnt be of more help.

ps actualy i do have one great tip.
ALWAYS back up any file before editing it. So if it goes bad can fast paste back originol coding. :wink:

I personally use metapad.

I back up my forum (files and database) every other day, and date the backups. Has saved me many hours of remodding and recoding. And I almost always back up everything before making a big mod.
