There is only ONE option for a live board when you want support both now and in the future and that is to install phpbb2 (latest version) preferably with no mods and then when phpbb3 RC1 is released upgrade your phpbb2 board to phpbb3. That way you will loose no data.

And please do not ask when RC1 will be released as nobody knows - it could be tomorrow, it could be next week or it could be next year - it will be released when it is ready.

It'll turn off users.

Personally, I wouldn't hesitate to use Olympus in a live environment. As long as it's not for a business, you should be ok.

Probably because there is no such option.

Before you install phpbb3 beta5 you should, if you have not already done so, read http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopi ... 6&t=517948 which is saying that there will be no support for a beta version upgraded to RC. So I suppose the answer to your question must be that if you install beta now and then want RC/gold you will loose all your data.

That could be taken wrong...
You will not lose* your data, you will, however, lose support.
As Beta -> RC/Gold will strictly not be supported.
BUT, there WILL be converters from Beta -> RC/Gold...
Just know that you would be on your own if you choose to travel that highway.

I don't plan on installing beta... I just plan on installing Ver. 2.0.22 as a beta version of my site. Are there going to be any converters for PHPBB2.0.22>PHPBB3, and so on after that?
Hey everyone! I am looking for an avatar you can dress up using a shop.

Currently these is already a converter for phpBB2 to phpBB3 in the phpBB3 beta5. I believe the next release is going to be a RC1 (as expected by Acyd Burn -> http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopi ... 4&t=507324 ). Many people will definitely jump in using phpBB3 live once it is RC. You may be one of them!!! Hahaha!

My opinion is that you can use phpBB2 for now with little mods (to make easy for conversion to phpBB3). Once phpBB3 is stabilized you can quickly convert over to it.

Otherwise if you feel comfortable using phpBB3 beta5, jump on it! :)

It has been stated there will be a converter from the latest version of phpbb2 (currently 2.0.22) to phpbb3 once phpbb3 goes to RC
