Well...

The subject is pretty big, but it can be useful, as evidenced by other forum solutions. Instead of just being the generic "Reply: blah" you can change it to be a short snippet of your post.

You're actually right. I'd have to say subjects are more useful now than they used to be.

I like it. I think I will like it even more with every future visit.

I'm certain it won't be long before you can have avatar wherever you want it, the poster's name will be as big as you'd like and the subject will be as small as you desire.

However, it's getting late and the sun is on it's way up...

My biggest concern is the user info on right.

User info is good on left side for a reason. We are used to read stuff from left to right. When user info is on left you dont really need to fix your eyes there to know who posted what, because its so natural, you know who's the poster in a split second, its almost automatic.

When that info is on right side it fells so un-natural.

Some east cultures learn to read from right to left (japanese, hebrew, arabic). Thats why their skins are like this one. Because for then, the natural process is right to left.

Another suggestion - drop the "Display posts from previous:" lower on the screen and highlight the "Previous" and "Next" links a little more . BTW, I hope the mods don't think I'm being rude with my posts. I'm excited about the new style.

BTW, will the phpbb team release the mods they made for the frontpage and the rest of the site? I would love it if they did.

My impression is that it looks a lot more "cool" but subsilver was a lot more usefull.

Dont get me wrong, it looks great, but some important info is missing.

Example:

Search last posts or search (topics), doesnt tell in which forum it was posted.
User profiles doesnt have anymore the shortcut to search for all posts of that particular user.
Reduced forum width %.

It can be set up so that it does. See a profile on Area51.

The reduced forum width is only on the phpBB.com version of proSilver.

It's on proSilver, just have a look at your profile, it's still there.

Actually on Tmac's profile, it's not. It seems to only be showing on people who have a certain number of posts :?

The new layout takes a little to get used to but over all I do find it to be a big improvement. I can see some of my members nagging me over a few things but I can tweak those pretty easily. I think this version is a step in the right direction at the very least. I will admit I was shocked to see just how much everything changed but it's in a good way.

We actually knew this name more than 1 year ago =)

This is kind of funny, I (and the rest of you) actually knew the name of this new style 15 months ago, on Mon Dec 19 18:55:51 2005 UTC... We just didn't realised that we did... 8O

Proof:
http://area51.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic ... er#p129612

The commit of the CSS-file I refeer to in that post is can be found in the CVS-archive...

But now we know much more, and I really LOVE it... The first time I checked this out I was a bit shocked, but now i totally LOVE it. I guess I will need some more time to get used to all the new things, but heck - this turned out much better than I could have ever imagined.

Just a quick question: Will the style ship with RC1? I guess it won't, but you have already surprised me, so I am not sure anymore :D Would be great for us who have to start the planning of the redesign of our localiced support-sites. But I suppose you want to keep it till the release too, I have heard people over at digg.com who sais they want to make a wordpress-style based on this. Shame on them, I do not want what happened with the subSilver-release to happen with the proSilver-release. But probably, that won't happen now since phpBB is much more known...

Have you tried clicking the PM button on the post details? ;)

Not sure I like the placement. You have PM with quotes right next to the IM and other contact buttons. I assumed that was the "regular" PM function, not with quotes. Perhaps the normal PM button under the user's profile and the one with quotes more aligned with the actual post.

Regardless, I'm still liking the changes and improvements.

First off, when I came to phpBB.com today, I was so shocked I had to check the URL to make sure I was on the right site!

It looks AWESOME. The site, and especially this new style.

Great job phpBB team :)

It looks like a Blog

Post by Highway of Life »

Bah, I think you all have demo-love with the Left vs. Right issue. :P

I don’t think that’s much of a big deal, but (I’ll repeat what I said before) it looks like a Blog, and I honestly was expecting something more unique.
Other than that, I really would not change it now for sure!
The idea is to get Style Authors creating stuff that’s a bit more unique than just stylesheet color changes (dread).
So I am happy to see something that is “Different”.
-- Boy do I like the type font used in the post box (textarea) better than the postbody. hehe. :D --

I like the way quotes are displayed, but my biggest con is the blue and pink colors... oh so blogish, and actually... it looks a bit like a child’s room :?
Other than that, I actually REALLY like the layout... though I would never use it myself, I’m happy to see it. :D
