Why not use Topic Merge?

Post by Highway of Life »

Question for the Moderators...
Why not use Topic merge for the individual topics that are asking the same thing as another topic, or for the numerous topics users are starting with their opinions of prosilver... isn’t it just as easy to merge the topic(s) as it is to lock it?

;) & :P

No, I'm not sure how you came to that conclusion.

When we split a topic, a shadow topic is left so that the user can find his/her old topic. If we merge two topic, the author will need to be notified that this took place. Simply locking the topic and linking to the answer solves this.

Not to mention that the user should have searched and found the topic in the first place.

Well, we know that the merge function is there for a reason... ;)

Okay, thanks, that was the answer I was looking for...
And also my concern, so tested it and realized... the tracking information should be maintained if two topics are merged together.
I’ve submitted a bug report on this, let’s see what the devs think.
That would solve the issue there, since replying to the merged topic would notify the user. -- so long as they have subscribed to the topic, which AFAIK is the default --

Of course, but we know they will never stop doing that to us. :D ;)
