2.1?

Post by Kanuck » Fri Aug 31, 2001 2:00 pm

Why's it going to 2.2 next? Just staying with twos for good luck?

We're numbering on the kernel version numbering system, ie. odd minor numbers indicate development, even minor indicates stable.

hence 1.2, 1.4 and 2.0, 2.2

So does that mean that 2.1.1, 2.1.2, 2.1.3 would indicate development versions, and 2.2 would be the public release of those dev versions, with 2.2.1 possibly containing a minor security patch or something?

If that's it, then I actually do understand. If not, then correct me :)

To confuse things even further, shouldn't the current beta then be called 2.1 beta-1. After all, it still is a development version :)

No, 2.1 is the development branch for 2.2 :)

Technicaly this should be 1.9, but since it's a MAJOR rewrite we're numbering it 2.0 :) All future development and stable versions will follow the even/odd scheme.

Hehe, because CVS doesn't support negative numbering ;)
