For all of you with subdomains, etc, it should be noted that a cookie domain can contain no more than two full stops (.), so for, say, my.really.long.subdomain.com, you could only put long.subdomain.com -- if that doesn't work, try just .subdomain.com

@ icewinged- does this happen when you use that link, or when you use the link from the main site (http://digital-wing.com/somagical/forum/)? I'd suggest setting the domain to .digital-wing.com, as noted by iWisdom above. If doing that alone does not work, try adjusting cookie paths next.

Just been reading through the whole thread but i can't seem to find the solution here. Our host recently decideded to stop its business, so since the forum is only used by a few people, i've decided to host the forum on my own pc. I use no.ip.com to forward my link.

The forum is located on http://3xfclan.servegame.com/forum

My cookie settings are as followed:

Cookie domain: .3xfclan.servegame.com
Cookie name: phpbb_3xf
Cookie path: /forum
Cookie secure: disabled

Tried it in both ie and ff. Any help is appreciated

I still can't get it working Should i place my computer's IP adress (because i'm hosting the forum) in the cookie domain? I've tried .servegame.com but no go. I also changed to cookie name and path without effect.

What am i missing here

I placed my computer's IP in the cookie domain and now it works Don't know this is the right way to go, but it works!

Wow this is very annoying. I'm very surprised nobody has created a global fix for this. I've tried everything in this thread and nothing worked. I posted the following earlier and nobody has yet to respond ....

Just installed 3.01 yesterday. Everything works fine except after logging and closing my browser I open a new browser and have to login again everytime! I can understand doing this for the admin panel but regular users are going to get tired of doing this each time just to use the forum. Why isn't it saving cookies?

I am having the same problem but I am using shortnames instead of fqdn since this is an internal forum. my forum is http://helpdesk/phpbb and my cookie domain is helpdesk. I read above that there needs to be 2 dots, like .example.com and I don't see how this will work with shortnames. I have tried changing settings, clearing cache, different browser, different computer, and it happens regardless. everytime I close the browser it logs me off.

To make phpBB work right on that URL, you'll probably need to make a small code change in /includes/session.php

In the set_cookie function, there is a check to see if the domain name is "localhost". Simply change "localhost" to "helpdesk" and see if that helps you

Hi, notice the thread is over a month old.. but.. i'm at my wits end trying to figure this out... I cannot get the log me in automatically every time I vist to work at all.. even after looking at the help in this topic... here are my settings:

the message base and the users have been migrated from phpnuke 7.x a while ago phpbb2 then to release canidate 3 then to where i am at now.

When the problem started: Since converting to phpbb3 from phpbb2

Been over 6 hours so I'm gonna' bump this.. Anyone have an idea? I've had the problem for a long while.. Since the conversion to phpbb from phpnuke or from phpbb2 to phpbb3.. I'm very sure I've entered the cookie settings right because I have setup a fresh phpbb3 test board as a subdomain and it was remembering login info with similar settings that I have on eliteadventurers.com. I also have other domains with phpbb3 hosted with no problems, but again these were clean installs...

I'm sure it's something stuck in a table somewhere during one of the conversions, I emptied sessions and keys table.. no good. No matter what I do, if I open a new tab or close the window .. I have to log back in.

Please please help. I'm about ready to offer to buy someone beer to fix me up. I'll be bumping again tomorrow.. I'll repost my server info...

fixed on own.

installed new copy of phpbb3 on subdomain, deleted all tables cept for the sessions and the config table..
exported everything from old board cept for sessions tables and config.. grafted into new one..

worked fine.. moved new board to where old board was.. got lucky.. no amount of cookie clearing, browser changing or setting changing seemed to do it. not sure why that fixed it when nothing else did .. still wondering why it was doing it but, it's fixed so i'm not complaining.

We have been having this problem at www.irishminis.ie/forum since we changed over to phpBB3 some months ago. All members of the forum have to log in at every visit, automatic log in will not work.
