Multi-Race Rank Themes

Well, I don't use images withe my special ranks, just text. The mod adds 2 extra special rank drop down menus in the ACP. www.forums.nybn.org is the site if ya wanna look at it. Sorry to take the conversation off topic, I'm just trying to look around 3.0x and see if the tools I use in 2.0x are here yet before taking the plunge.

Yes, that's more of a "multiple ranks/custom titles" mod than multiple rank themes. TBH then unless you rely on accessing people by that rank then I'd have expected it would have been easier to just allow multiple lines of text for a "custom title" in that situation.

I got a problem. 2 days ago, i just installed phpBB 3.0.1, and my 2 friends register on my forum. Then, yesterday, i installed this mod. The problem is, my 2 friend can't change their rank theme from default to my costum rank (i made 2 costum theme, heaven and hell). I tried to change them via ACP, but it won't work either. In the user rank drop down list- there are only 2 option, default and special rank. Need help ASAP. Thanks

What do your friends see, and have you given them a special rank?

Currently there is no way to change a user's rank theme from the ACP, only edit the ranks and rank themes. Based on that I don't know which list you are looking at that only has two options.

If you give me some more information and a better description of what is showing where/what actions you took to navigate to the pages then I might be able to help more.

Hi,

i try to use this MOD for my Forum (3.0.1), but when i change a default Rank to a Ranktheme, it is no longer displayed in topic
Viewtopic.php is changend like in the MOD-description declared and i refreshed template and style and clean all caches (again and again and...)

Any Idea?

Any chance of a link and a demo profile?

What is shown in the HTML when you pick a non-default rank theme? And do the default rank themes still show?

Without a bit more detail, I'm not quite sure what the cause might be.

If i pick a non-default rank theme no Ranktext and no Rankimage is shown.
When i pick a default Rank, all is shown.

Well, there's only one change in viewtopic.php, so either that should work or it shouldn't. The only other location there should be potential problems relating to that is the template and the core functionality.

Can you post the relevant section of your viewtopic template file (the bit from the avatar to the registration date should do)? Also, does the theming show correctly on the profile and members list page, or are all themed ranks that aren't default failing to show?

The strange thing is that if it somehow doesn't find a rank theme when the user has made a selection then it should fall back to the default theme, so you should never get a lack of rank.

I'd really like to use this Mod.
It sounds very good.

But before I go through this long process, I'd like for someone to please clear up a few questions for me.

1) Will each individual member to choose his "Rank Race" or will myself the Admin need to choose it for them.

2) Will they be able to modify their race on their own after selecting one?

3) Will I able to modify the users ranks at will via my ACP?

4) Will these "Races" also be able to increase in Rank as their post counts rises?

eg.

--- Race 1 = Fire ---
0 Posts = Flame
20 Posts = Blaze
50 Posts = Inferno

------------------------

--- Race 2 = Water ---
0 Posts = Waves
20 Posts = Whirlpool
50 Posts = Tsunami

And so forth.


5) If those above conditions exist.
And the person has a high rank, eg, Tsunami.
If either myself, or that person has power to change their race, will their rank automatically be equivalent to another high rank?

Eg, change from (Race: Water, Rank: Tsunami) will give =
(Race: Fire, Rank: Inferno)

I think this covers most of my questions.

I'm really excited to add this Mod to my forum,
but I'd just like to be sure on what it actually does first.

1) Members choose their own rank theme. Admin selection will hopefully be added in a future version, when I get time.

2) Yes, the selection is always modifiable, just like any other profile value.

3) See 1)

4) Yes, as they are rank themes - i.e. themed sets of ranks. An example is provided in the top of the instructions.

5) The rank image to show is selected on each page load, just like normal ranks. That means changing rank theme will change the rank shown. If they've got 50 posts then they've got 50 posts, where that puts them in the rank hierarchy depends on the theme.

Most of that (different schemes as multiple ranks, changing between ranks, and getting the rank of the theme you change to) is also visible on the demo board using the example account.

This seems like a perfect Mod to add to my forums.

I will add this tomorrow.

It would be really neat if you could make the "Admin selection" feature whenever you have the time.

I would like to allow users to select a "Theme/Race" once only, and if they want it changed they will need to contact me to change it manually.

Still, this is a very great Mod and I will us it as is for now.

If you add it to the dev thread as a feature I'll see what I can do. I've got a nine week old son now, though, so any development on any of my projects has slowed down quite a bit.

But anyway... I've got a feature request that you might want to consider after your son has settled down into the world...

But what if there was an ability for admins to add a small "description" to the races... I mean, I might be able to do it, but I'm not good at php ... It would probably require a language file, and I wouldn't mind if there wasn't any ACP integration... but like a "Description" to a race...

That should be easy enough, especially if there isn't an admin interface for it. I'll keep it in mind when I get a chance to work on the mod again.
