I installed a lot of MODs to date but I only purge the cache & that works everytime for me. I never cleared those theme/template/imageset things except when I edit something in theme/template using ACP which I don't.

Golden Rule: After every MOD installation, purge the cache.

Or just disable the purge-the-cache function and you'll never have to remember it again

Go to Admin CP - General - Load Settings - Recompile stale style components
Set it to Yes.

Why?
Because cache lessen load on database & helps in fulfilling page request quickly.

P.S. Your solution is good since it only applies on style components. But still I guess it will slow page request fulfillment & more load on server.

At this MOD purging cache did not helped, as there was new image in the style sheet. Purging cahcedoes not refref imageset. You nneed to do that manually.

really? i don't remember doing that. :?
nonetheless that Golden Rule is still valid .... though depending on MODs, you may have to do other things as well but purging cache is almost necessary every time & doing so doesn't hurt thats why its Golden Rule

I installed the Viewtopic Birthday and Viewprofile Birthday, cleared all the cache (and style's cache), but the birthday cake appears only on member profile and not on viewtopic. What's wrong?

most probably you did wrong edits for viewtopic section since you are able to see it on member profile. Double check your edits ... better restore backup, and reapply edits again.

I have already done it, all edits seem to be right.

After installing this mod, I went inside the forum Admin Control Panel, clicked on the "Styles" tab at the top, then clicked on "Styles" on the left, and then clicked "Refresh" under "Actions" to the right of the "prosilver" theme. Is that what I am supposed to do after installing this mod? And did I do it correctly? Please let me know.

Edit:
Inside the forum Admin Control Panel, I purged the cache under the "General" tab.

The birthday cake still doesn't show in view topic. You can see in this thread that the birthday cake does not show near the Admin's avatar.

Another Edit:
I already uploaded icon_birthday.gif. I also checked all steps during and* after installation. I believed I followed all steps correctly. I clicked on the files inside the File Manager of the web host and edited it that way. It has been working with other mods. I didn't use Wordpad or Notepad. Reasons: Notepad didn't display the codes on separate lines, but instead clustered everything together, making the whole file really hard to see. I used Wordpad before and it worked fine, but one time, I used it and uploaded the file, but the codes from a mod were ignored.

I don't have a clue as to why the birthday cake did not show in view topic. What went wrong? How do I make the birthday cake show? Thanks.

Edit:

I find out why. I clicked on the "Styles" tab and clicked on "Imagesets" and the birthday cake now shows. That took me a lot of time to figure it out although I've read the messages above on this page. I agree that the mod author should or need to put this step in the install.xml file to help other users.

Thanks for the mod and for taking our suggestions into consideration.

I linked your site here as a way of saying thanks.

Nice mod.

I have however edited common.php so it displays Happy Birthday on mouseover of the cake icon:

Code: Select all

	'VIEWTOPIC_BIRTHDAY'	=> 'Happy Birthday',
Is there any way of adding the user ID to the end of that string?
I've tried various things but can't get it to display e.g. Happy Birthday Brogan.
