Extension are adding admin accounts even they're excemption

by elbeborandy » Tue Jun 27, 2017 3:00 am

Hi, guys. Im actually using phpBB 3.2...

So, thing is that I installed yesterday Auto Group extension because I want to limit the new users to PM (to avoid spam) and I have the option that after 3 posts, there's a new regular user class but with the permission of PM.

Thing is that I have on excemption my staff crew: admins, moderators, translators, because on their class permission they have the option to upload attachment via PM, but users normal can't do that.

Thing is that when an user is in two groups (in this case the registered users and admin, they can't upload attachments because they;re in two groups), so I must have them only on that group of permission that can upload attachmnet.

Thing is that I have all those member on excemption and always that they post something new, the extension are adding them to the new group of that users who can send PM. Not activate them as default because I have that disabled, but the extension are adding them to that group.

Is there anyway that the extension DO NOT touch those users. I thought the excemption was for that.

Check my screenshot:

Settings (admin excemption).:

And they are on the class >.<

You don't need AutoGroups. phpBB already does this for you. Just set New member post limit to 3 and Set Newly Registered Users group to default to yes under User Registration Settings.

Other than that, your issues are just about setting up permissions for each group correctly. Newly reg users should never be able to PM.

As for AutoGroups exceptions, as it says that only has to do with changing a user's default group. Users can belong to many groups but 1 must be their default. This only affects the display of their group and has nothing to do with the user's abilities...that's all up to how you set up permissions.

You should stick with the default groups for registered users that came with phpBB. You're creating your own which means you have a lot of permissions to figure out and get right if you're gonna do that.

Ok, that's where I'm lost.

Where's that option to limit the post to 3 number and then the system know which group to change?

Sorry, but I'm new to this :$

I mean, how the forum will know which group will be the user after reach that post limit?

For example: I have: Usuarios registrados (the default - they can't send PM) and I have Usuarios "R"egistrados, they can send PM.

I would like to stay with Usuarios registrados like now as default, they can't send MP. But to add that after they reach 3 post, they will be Usuarios "R"egistrados (upper R) so they can send MP.

Honestly you shouldn't even be worried about PM spam. You can only send a PM to about 8 people at a time, so it's a very hard thing to try to use for spam purposes.

Noup. It's not working to avoid spam :( because for example... if th new registered has the option off to PM but user registered yes, anyway will let the user to send the PM. That's what I don't want :$

The "New Registered" users should have the PM option set to "never".

I believe that the way permissions work is that "Yes" allows a function, but continues checking, "No" makes no change to the current state, and continues checking, and "Never" disallows a function and stops checking. All groups for the user are checked.
