Over the years, many of you have asked us to add support for multiple announcements, but implementing this feature would have required a near-total rewrite of the extension. We now recognize that the Board Announcements extension is more than just a learning example for developers; it has become an essential tool for enhancing the user experience of phpBB communities. Therefore, I've been working hard to overhaul the code and bring multiple announcements to this extension.
Hopefully this update will make the Board Announcements extension more useful and valuable to the community than ever before.
What can you expect:
- Announcements will still look and feel the same
- Announcement settings will still be exactly the same
- You will be able to create an unlimited number of announcements
- Each announcement will have its own independent settings for who can view it, if and when it will expire, and where it can be displayed (still index only or everywhere).
- We'll still keep track of users who close an announcement so they won't ever see it again, unless you update the announcement and re-save it.
