IP address removal? - Delete My Account

IP address removal?

by andrewilley » Thu Apr 19, 2018 4:37 pm

When a user deletes their account, and their existing messages remain and become anonymous, does the IP address that they originally logged in from for those posts also get wiped (e.g. set to to 127.0.0.1)? If not, can that be added as an option as I think the EU's new GDPR law seems to treat IP address as personal information too, and thus should not be retained anywhere in in a forum's database if any of their remaining posts are to become truly anonymous.

No it does not as it uses phpBB default method user_delete which doesn't change the IP address.

Yeap, it uses the default deletion process and I won't change that and this is something that should be tackled in the core since this will need doing for manual user deletions by the admin also.

This mod lets users delete their own account; it is not a GDPR compliance tool. It helps with it as part of an overall approach but is only a small part of the solution.
