ImageMagick Thumbnailer

Full image orientation - ImageMagick Thumbnailer

Full image orientation

by bacon tacon » Sat May 04, 2019 2:11 pm

Hi,
Thank you for this extension.

I just installed it and see that it correctly orientates the thumbnail image (where the native phpBB code fails), but when I click the thumbnail to the full sized image it is not correctly oriented (on its side).

I assume this is because Imagemagick is not processing the full-size image. Is there a way I could fix this?

Yes, you are right, this extension is for rotating the thumbnail only (as the title says 8-) )
With this extension, there is no way to rotate the image itself. Best way you can solve is the old-fashioned way: Download the image, rotate it with a image manipulation program (like photoshop, gimp ...) and re-upload it.

But currently I'm working on a different extension which enables some more feature of ImageMagick to be used in phpBB:
  • I
  • mage rotating of the image (both automatic and manual)
  • Resize images server side (bypassing the sub-optimal algorithm coming with the plupload library)
  • ...
But it will take some time because my spare time is limited at the moment

Thank you for confirming that.

I will keep an eye out for developments with your new extension. It would solve a significant problem if users could easily rotate their images when incorrectly orientated (for whatever reason).

It is perhaps premature to be requesting features, but an option to strip certain (or all) EXIF data from the images would be very welcome. I need to protect forum members privacy and security when they post images from phones of valuable items, sometimes unknowingly exposing their location. https://www.php.net/manual/en/imagick.stripimage.php
