Merchant ID does not match - PayPal Donation Extension

Merchant ID does not match

by RobLatour » Sun Jan 06, 2019 3:34 am

So I just got my first real donation thanks to this extension - thanks very much!

But there is one thing I don't understand. In the extension's transaction log, for the transaction, there is a big red bar across the screen and the message:

Warning
You should reconsider this donation because the following errors are detected:
Merchant ID does not match.

What should I do to resolve this?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Does the value in the transaction log for Receiver ID or Payment sent to match with the Account ID entered in the Extension (ACP>Extension>PPDE>General Settings>PayPal account ID)?
If yes, which one?

No, it does not match either.

On my PayPal account I have various emails set up to receive funds, these based on the products that people are sending the funds for. On the Extension (ACP>Extension>PPDE>General Settings>PayPal account ID) I used the email id associated with the product that people would be sending me funds for via my phpbb forum. This helps me understand for what product I am receiving the funds. This email is however is different from my main paypal email id which shows up on the transaction log.

By doing this, you create a kind of spoofing.

Regarding the PayPal IPN API, I have never seen anything that provides all the email addresses that are part of a same account.
All transactions made via PPDE can be easily detected in your PayPal history. So, why do not use the mail e-mail address or the Merchant ID?

I don't see that all, and I've been doing since 2006. PayPlay lets you associate different emails your PayPal account. I set these up so that people sending money for producut1 send funds to payments@product1.com, and people who send money for product2 send funds to payment@product2.com. It clean, and easy for everyone to understand. I don't think they care much that product1 and product2 are tied together at a higher level.

In any case, is there not a way the extension can handle this?

Thank you.

However, to be clear, I was able to receive and accept the one donation I have had to date. Accordingly, it appears to be just a warning that I will need to ignore.

If you do make the change and need someone to test it, I would be glad to help.
