Genders list - Genders

Genders list

by Hervé » Thu Jan 21, 2021 9:42 am

Hi,
I have installed the version 1.3.0
On previous version I had limited the genders in rmcgirr83/genders/core/gender_constants.php like here under.
With new version I get all the genders : how can I limit them ?
Thanks

Code: Select all

They're now located in the config folder gender_constants.yml file.

I've changed it like this but have no more gender at all !

Code: Select all

parameters:
    gender_constants:
        gender_none: 0
        fa-mars: 1
        fa-venus: 2
//        fa-intersex: 3
//        fa-mars-double: 4
//        fa-mars-stroke: 5
//        fa-mars-stroke-h: 6
//        fa-mars-stroke-v: 7
//        fa-mercury: 8
//        fa-neuter: 9
        fa-transgender: 10
//        fa-transgender-alt: 11
//        fa-venus-double: 12
//        fa-venus-mars: 13
        fa-genderless: 14

Don't comment them out, that isn't how a yml works. You need to actually remove them. (after disabling the extension of course).

Could you possibly explain to me what each of the Gender means?
'FA-MARS' => Male
'FA-VENUS' => Female
'FA-INTERSEX' => having both male and female sex organs or relating to this state
'FA-MARS-DOUBLE' => 4,
'FA-MARS-STROKE' => 5
'FA-MARS-STROKE-H' => 6,
'FA-MARS-STROKE-V' => 7,
'FA-MERCURY' => 8,
'FA-NEUTER' => 9,
'FA-TRANSGENDER' => 10,
'FA-TRANSGENDER-ALT' => 11,
'FA-VENUS-DOUBLE' => 12,
'FA-VENUS-MARS' => 13,
'FA-GENDERLESS' => 14,

Is it possible to leave the unused constants as comments in case I change my mind ?

The answer is no, not in the yml file. Why are you going through all this trouble? Does it matter what a user chooses as a gender?

Found by myself : hashtag is the .yml comment, it works.
I don't want to leave all thise possibilities because
1) I don't know what they mean;
2) I'm fear the users would use whatever;
3) in the previous version you wrote in the gender_constants.php file "// add to or subtract from to suit your needs" so I did it.

Code: Select all

parameters:
    gender_constants:
        gender_none: 0
        fa-mars: 1
        fa-venus: 2
#        fa-intersex: 3
#        fa-mars-double: 4
#        fa-mars-stroke: 5
#        fa-mars-stroke-h: 6
#        fa-mars-stroke-v: 7
#        fa-mercury: 8
#        fa-neuter: 9
        fa-transgender: 10
#        fa-transgender-alt: 11
#        fa-venus-double: 12
#        fa-venus-mars: 13
        fa-genderless: 14

Better is to know "What the poet mean by writing this poem".
Who knows it better than the author?
I hope it is not so much work to write some "strings" as an answer to my question, isn't it?

I will appreciate if somebody from authors team will answer me, please!

Except I'm not the "poet", I'm just the publisher of the "poem".

I hope it is not so much work for you to use google as an answer to your question, is it?

Thank you for your nice answer.

Before I have asked here I did a research in Uncle Google. Unfortunately, I cannot find any "definitions" of each of genders meaning.
Of course, there are a lot of definitions of genders, but not the same names as in Gender extension.

As I see in this topic, I am not the only one who does not understand the meaning of each gender name in the Gender extension.

They are symbols so try searching on gender symbols.

Well, thank you for your help.

Simply: I will switch-off Genders extension from my board.
I would not like to use something which I do not understand on my board.
