How to install this mod - ACP Add User MOD
How to install this mod
Hi, I'm quite new to phpbb and downloaded this mod. I looked for instructions online on how to install mods to phpbb and the tutorials did provide the various ways of installing and mod and also said that the mod will provide information on where to place the files etc.
I've looked into this mod and I have found no such instructions. Can someone please tell me how to install? Thanks.

There are no edits neccessary. Hard to believe? Just copy the files and add the module as I remember, but it is some years (2) ago I added this mod.

Re: How to install this mod
wolfman24 is correct to a degree.
You just upload the files involved and run the installer file that comes with the mod which will add the module for you.

Re: How to install this mod
Hi all,
having the same issue as to installing the mod.
The PHPBB forum is installed in a sub-directory of http://melbournegenderqueer.org
Unfortumately when I enter the full path to the install file, it isn't accessible...
I haven't done much with PHPBB before so I'm hoping it's a noob issue
thanks for any help

Re: How to install this mod
Hi all,
further to my last message, have discovered it's more about 404 and the site not being able to find files and folders that are actually there. I'm working on an alternative now but it's definitely not a PHPBB problem!
Thanks all!

Re: How to install this mod
You copy the folders and files found in root to the root of your forum. You don't copy the folder root to your forum.

I did what you suggested. I copied all files from root/*.* folder o yours into my *.* directory
and here is what i got
Warning: include(./common.php) [function.include]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/content/06/9089006/html/acp_aumod_install.php on line 20
Warning: include() [function.include]: Failed opening './common.php' for inclusion (include_path='.:/usr/local/php5/lib/php') in /home/content/06/9089006/html/acp_aumod_install.php on line 20
Fatal error: Call to a member function session_begin() on a non-object in /home/content/06/9089006/html/acp_aumod_install.php on line 21
My phpb is in my subfolder mydomain.com/forum so if I copied all root/*.* files to my www.mydomain.com/forum when I run acp_aumod.php this is what I got
General Error
Language file ./language/en/mods/info_acp_add_user_mod.php couldn't be opened.
Can you help?

Re: How to install this mod
You need to copy the files into the correct places...you are missing the language file that comes with the mod in your language folder of your forum.

Re: How to install this mod
I am very grateful for this mod! I'm still new at both php and phpBB. My board will be invisible to the world except those I invite and I'll manually register everyone I invite, once they give me there Login-ID (which will be used in a front-end website). I'm SO glad I searched for this, to find that it already exists!
One thing that may help future newbies (like me) is this. I was nervous (as I always am) about uploading anything to my phpbb3 folder (which I had just successfully upgraded from 3.0.9 to 3.0.11 by overlaying all files), even if I've backed up things. So before FTPing anything, I used WinExplorer and FTP client side by side to inspect the contents of folders in the mod (on my PC) and the corresponding folders that are "live" at my site. I was greatly relieved that all files being copied would not be overlaying existing files. So as long as I did the transfer correctly, I couldn't damage anything. Doing this inspection greatly helped me be confident that I would have the correct source and destination places specified for my upload. I ran the install program as per the .xml page.
It "mostly" worked, and I've been able to add users!!! THANK YOU, DEVELOPERS of this mod!!!
My comment would stop there, but for some glitches. Upon the first attempt, it blew up with
I don't think I need to paste here the medium long backtrace. I took the clue from the URL above. Here's what I figured out. In my language folder, I have two folders, "en" and "en_us". I see the mod's tree has only "en". I said, "Hmmm... maybe I only need to copy the 2 missing .txt files from "en" to "en_us". I did so via further uploading. It now didn't blow up. But there's a new problem. The message at the bottom of each page says "POWERED BY phpBB", or at least did til now. Now it only says "POWERED BY".
Last week when I upgraded from 3.0.9 to 3.0.11, I did not know to do anything with regard to the "en_us" language addition I had made when I first set up the board (and forgot everything I did--it was a long time ago). I had used the file "american_english_1_0_5.zip".
So with all these things in mind, can anyone who is smarter than me (which is probably everyone here) discern what I've failed to do with regard to language maintenance and this mod? How did the object of the "Powered By" phrase disappear?
EDIT: I've since upgraded the American from 1.0.5 to 1.2.0 (at least I think I've upgraded it--have uploaded new content for "en" and "en_us"), plus some other mods. Somewhere in the mix, my "powered by" clause has "come back". So I guess I'm largely set.
I'm getting the impression that whenever we encounter in a mod ANY reference to "en" whether it's in a file structure that we upload or lists of edits we must make to .php source files, that we are expected to assume that we are to make the same changes to any language we have installed other than "en". I would have thought there'd be some mention of that in the mod instructions. (I realize my noob colors are showing.)

Re: How to install this mod
I too found this useful mod rather more difficult to install than should have been the case.
The dismissive, condescending approach from some responders here is NOT helpful:
Well this is probably not going to work since your browser is going to disable the necessary permissions and anyway, why should you grant unknown permissions to a request from an app name that is NOT the name of the mod? It would be better to remove this almost useless auto install and just force everyone to copy the files up by hand.
This is not helpful either, since it doesn't tell you WHICH files are required, nor does it tell you which file is the installer.
We're getting closer to useful instructions here but still nobody has actually PROPERLY NAMED the files required. This post says "root" twice, but one is literal and one is generic. Sure, for the experienced phpBB modder it's all obvious, but NOT for the newbie or first time modder.
This isn't even close to useful. Why not just spell out what the files are and where to put them?
For the benefit of all newbies who need this useful mod, here is how to do the install:
Compliments to the mod writers who produced this useful mod, but surely it would not be too hard to place the above instruction in the distribution directory, (instead of the almost useless autoinstall files).

For the benefit of all newbies who need this useful mod, here is how to do the install:
- Unzip the acp_add_user_mod_1_1_1.zip file, an acp_add_user_mod_1_1_1 directory should have been created.
Fire up your FTP client and connect to your forums website.
In the server pane navigate to your "phpbb" directory. This is your forum's root.
In the local pane navigate through the acp_add_user_mod_1_1_1 until you find the directory named "root".
Go into that directory ("root") and copy everything in it up to the server phpbb directory.
Using your web browser navigate to the acp_aumod_install.php file and click on it. Or you can just type the full path directly into the browser titlebar. You can find the full path name from your FTP client, but it will be something like "yourwebsite/phpbb/acp_aumod_install.php".
You should see the installation dialog which you simply agree to.
Log into your forum's Administration Control Panel and purge the cache from the "General" page.
Go to the "Users and Groups" page, you should now see the "Add User" option.

Compliments to the mod writers who produced this useful mod, but surely it would not be too hard to place the above instruction in the distribution directory, (instead of the almost useless autoinstall files).
All I want are bug-free tools. Is that so much to ask?

I have no idea what this means or what "app" you are referring to. This mod does not require an "app" it requires an xsl file, which is retrieved from phpBB, to parse the xml file. There is no "app" required.

and yet you state this in your instructions in your post
Go into that directory ("root") and copy everything in it up to the server phpbb directory.
WHICH also doesn't state which files are required so I suppose, using your logic, your instructions below are equally non-helpful.

Then the newbie/first time modder should take some time to investigate on how to install mods by either looking in the knowledge base on here or reading some topics on the subject.

because, like you, I am lazy and can simply state copy root/*.* to *.*
For the benefit of all newbies who need this useful mod, here is how to do the install:Unzip the acp_add_user_mod_1_1_1.zip file, an acp_add_user_mod_1_1_1 directory should have been created.

Go to the "Users and Groups" page, you should now see the "Add User" option.![]()
https://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/view ... l/id_56979
which is, pretty much, just exactly what you posted for instructions.
This mod is probably one of the, if not the, easiest mods to install. If you can't follow the instructions given, then maybe you should try automod or, ***gasp***, read a few topics on the subject and or knowledge base articles.
Compliments to the mod writers who produced this useful mod, but surely it would not be too hard to place the above instruction in the distribution directory, (instead of the almost useless autoinstall files).
Your statement concerning "autoinstall files" makes zero sense. There are no "autoinstall files".
I really wonder sometimes why I even bother to provide these mods to those who are less than appreciative or don't even bother to understand the phpBB modding process and what is required from the end user to get a mod installed. Don't shoot the mod author for following the mod writing guidelines that are stipulated by phpBB to get the mod into the database.
I can understand why it is that mod authors just simply stop supporting the mods they provide, for free I might add, to the community. It is thankless end users that just seem to crap all over them anyway so why bother.
