Well this is probably not going to work since your browser is going to disable the necessary permissions and anyway, why should you grant unknown permissions to a request from an app name that is NOT the name of the mod? It would be better to remove this almost useless auto install and just force everyone to copy the files up by hand.

I have no idea what this means or what "app" you are referring to. This mod does not require an "app" it requires an xsl file, which is retrieved from phpBB, to parse the xml file. There is no "app" required.

You just upload the files involved and run the installer file that comes with the mod which will add the module for you.

This is not helpful either, since it doesn't tell you WHICH files are required, nor does it tell you which file is the installer.

and yet you state this in your instructions in your post

Go into that directory ("root") and copy everything in it up to the server phpbb directory.

WHICH also doesn't state which files are required so I suppose, using your logic, your instructions below are equally non-helpful.

RMcGirr83 wrote:You copy the folders and files found in root to the root of your forum. You don't copy the folder root to your forum.

We're getting closer to useful instructions here but still nobody has actually PROPERLY NAMED the files required. This post says "root" twice, but one is literal and one is generic. Sure, for the experienced phpBB modder it's all obvious, but NOT for the newbie or first time modder.

Then the newbie/first time modder should take some time to investigate on how to install mods by either looking in the knowledge base on here or reading some topics on the subject.

RMcGirr83 wrote:You need to copy the files into the correct places...you are missing the language file that comes with the mod in your language folder of your forum.

This isn't even close to useful. Why not just spell out what the files are and where to put them?

because, like you, I am lazy and can simply state copy root/*.* to *.*

For the benefit of all newbies who need this useful mod, here is how to do the install:

Unzip the acp_add_user_mod_1_1_1.zip file, an acp_add_user_mod_1_1_1 directory should have been created.
Fire up your FTP client and connect to your forums website.
In the server pane navigate to your "phpbb" directory. This is your forum's root.
In the local pane navigate through the acp_add_user_mod_1_1_1 until you find the directory named "root".
Go into that directory ("root") and copy everything in it up to the server phpbb directory.
Using your web browser navigate to the acp_aumod_install.php file and click on it. Or you can just type the full path directly into the browser titlebar. You can find the full path name from your FTP client, but it will be something like "yourwebsite/phpbb/acp_aumod_install.php".
You should see the installation dialog which you simply agree to.
Log into your forum's Administration Control Panel and purge the cache from the "General" page.
Go to the "Users and Groups" page, you should now see the "Add User" option. :D

which is, pretty much, just exactly what you posted for instructions.

This mod is probably one of the, if not the, easiest mods to install. If you can't follow the instructions given, then maybe you should try automod or, ***gasp***, read a few topics on the subject and or knowledge base articles.

Compliments to the mod writers who produced this useful mod, but surely it would not be too hard to place the above instruction in the distribution directory, (instead of the almost useless autoinstall files).

Your statement concerning "autoinstall files" makes zero sense. There are no "autoinstall files".

I really wonder sometimes why I even bother to provide these mods to those who are less than appreciative or don't even bother to understand the phpBB modding process and what is required from the end user to get a mod installed. Don't shoot the mod author for following the mod writing guidelines that are stipulated by phpBB to get the mod into the database.

I can understand why it is that mod authors just simply stop supporting the mods they provide, for free I might add, to the community. It is thankless end users that just seem to crap all over them anyway so why bother.

This this this

I had trouble installing mods when I first started my forum. But now I have no trouble at all. It isn't hard to learn how to install a mod properly, whether manually or not.
