Unable to see the Announcement Box on Index/Any Page

by Lewis2212 » Mon Apr 14, 2014 12:08 pm

Hi there guys.

I am fairly new to phpbb and coding in general, but lately I have started a gaming community with some of my friends and created a forum with phpbb. I have tried adding the Announcement Centre Mod and I have managed to get it installed using AutoMod. I also updated it to the latest version.

What I have a problem with, is that I don't know what coding must be added and where in the overall_header, and any other files since the theme I am using is not an original theme.

The them I am using is Cerulean Style by Daniel St. Jules of Gamexe.net.

If it helps, here is my forum - http://www.gamersunited.co.uk/

I would appreceiate any detailed help on what to do, or any who would kindly offer to change the files in the ftp (if that is needed) and I would create them an account to do that.

Thanks,

Lewis.

This style? https://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/style/cerulean/
It's based on prosilver, so if you unzip the Mod and open the install.xml file in a browser (right click->Open with) you will see the edits needed for prosilver - look for the same files to edit in your style.
A thread is pretty much a topic. Stop with the pedantics will ya.

Yes, That style.

Most of the files were already edited by the AutoMod, But then when I went through them all, although there was no errors when AutoMod installed it, It has not replaced one of the lines in the posting.php file.

This is what it wants to replace, but I don't have that line in the coding.

The coding:

Code: Select all

posting.php is not a style file so it's not style related ;)
The line

Code: Select all

      generate_smilies('window', $forum_id);

is on line 126 of a default posting.php file
Can you post what you have between lines 100 and 150 using the BBCode Code tags.

I know this isn't style related, But I have found the problem for the style too, but I will ask about that after. Here are the lines 100 - 150.

Which file is that? I have this for posting.php (lines 120-130)

Code: Select all

               OR f.forum_id = $forum_id)" .
            (($auth->acl_get('m_approve', $forum_id)) ? '' : 'AND p.post_approved = 1');
   break;

   case 'smilies':
      $sql = '';
      generate_smilies('window', $forum_id);
   break;

   case 'popup':
      if ($forum_id)

EDIT: You're looking in language/en/acp/posting.php
You want posting.php in the root, same place as config.php

Ahhhh, Im sorry, I was looking at the wrong one like you said. However, the file was still not edited, so I have added the code in the suitable place. The last thing which (as far as I know) needs doing is the style edits.

The code which it is asking me to find...I can't seem to find it anywhere in the html file.

So, Im wondering, Where do I actually need to add the line for this style?

EDIT: Note that I would like it to be underneath the NavBar and above the forums.

My guess would be the very last line in overall_header.html under

Code: Select all

      <div class="clear"></div>
      <!-- ENDIF -->

Have you uploaded the style files from prosilver (in the Mod) to your style too?

Thanks a lot for the help so far, I have now managed to get it working, but there seems to be a slight problem with the style and stuff. Any ideas on how to possibly fix this?

Yeah I see what you mean, you could play around with the announcement_centre.html file, replacing some of the coding with something in forumlist_body.html for instance (you know a little about styling? Just html)
Or I can take a look later - will have to install style and Mod - sometime tonight UK time, let me know and I'll see what I can do.

It's too far removed from prosilver to modify easily (atleast for me anyway) - the styling uses all custom codes, no wonder the author hasn't updated it, he's probably still getting over the coding marathon he must have had creating it.
You might be best asking the author if he can alter the announcement_centre.html file but to be honest I'd look for another style, it's 3 versions out of date and probably won't get converted for 3.1 either.

Damn :/ , Is there any chance that the white line around the Box is some sort of border which can be removed maybe?

If not then thanks for your time anyways.

You have been very helpful.
