The old question: optional Unsubscribe, Subscribe as default

by sirnoname » Fri Dec 14, 2012 2:34 pm

Hi Martin,

how can I quickly invert the subscribe function of the optional newsletter.
You have placed the newsletter ID which are subscribed in the database. I like the newsletter is activated for everone (database is free) and if someone go to the UCP, with my unsubscribe link in the signature, and select "no" the newsletter id is placed in the database. This is the opposite of your current solution, I only like to know what I have to change :)

Can you please help me there?

Best regards,

Hello SirNoName,
a lot of code heed to be changed an added for this feature.

One idea for a Workaround:
Make a board Newsletter. Send the first Newsletter email. And then change the newsletter to optional. Add a note to the email e.g. like: If you want to get this email in future then please subscribe it under : <the link>

For the Olympus phpBB 3.0 version of this MOD I will not any new features.

Bye Martin

Hi Martin,

this is not a option for me or the others here. The users are lazy and in my case it is a update mail with importand notices which have to be delivered.
As far I can see I only have to invert the sending routine question and the subscribe buttons. Yes=No and a != in the mailing section.

Hello SirNoName,
there is another way to solve it:
Make a board newsletter.
Set Newsletter setting Overwrite allow mass e-mail setting: to No

Insteat of a true unsubscribe link redirect to UCP -> Board preferences -> Edit global settings -> Administrators can e-mail me information: to tell your users to set No. Then this setting will been used for all newsletters and newsletter emails.

At the moment I'm working on an other large MOD and on some MOD updates. This is the reason to make Multiple Newsletters Add On feature frozen till the first beta of phpBB 3.1 (Ascraeus) will come.

I don't understand, this setting will allow sending newly created newsletters to all users?

Or: when I create board newletter, can users unsubscribe from it?

Hello Komanche,
board newsletters are send to all users. If the user setting is not overwritten then users can decide if they want to recieve newsletter e-mails or not.
