ive been trawling thru this forum and google for hours trying to find how what the hell i am ment to do to install this
like, i downloaded the zip file? now what do i do?
i tried uploading the zipfile to my forum, i trued uploading the the folder in it to my forum, but like how dose it work? do i have to do complicated coding to make it work? I know how to use acp a little but i cant see the new option there?
I dont know what files i am ment to upload or where they go, then what i meant to do to make the option come up in acp
I doubled clicked on all the files but its just code i see.. i also read that to get the install help i must open install_sortables_captcha_plugin.xml in my web browser.. but i drag it in, and it dosent open in firefox

while clicking on everything i found a file called
phpbb_captcha_sortables_plugin.php in
/root/includes.cpatcha/plugins/
do i have to upload the file somewhere specific? i uploaded to my root folder on my forum and visited that php site, but.. um well i dunno tbh what the hell i am meant to do here :/

if this involved complicated programming and stuff.. its ok .. i can do with out the CAPTCHA

You need to unpack the ZIP-archive and then open the install_...xml file in your browser. There will only be Copy Actions in it, no need to edit any files.

Hi Derky, thanks for the reply, i think i was draging the .xml file from the zip before :/ my bad

but after opening it, im presested with a page of info.. i still see no help or an "install button" of any kind

It mentions
"Because this is a plugin you don't have to edit any file, just upload the files and it works!"
upload what files and to where??
then it says
"Installation level: Easy" lol
continuing down it says

To update this plugin in AutoMOD:
1) Uninstall the current version (the questions are not deleted)
2) Install the latest version
3) Click on "Details" and under "Available Changes" and install the update file"

what is automod? do i also need this to install it?

anyway, it has a whole bunch of stuff i dont understand, but toward the bottom it has this:

anyway i made sure to copy these files into there proper places in my phpbb3 folder structure..
NOTE: i didnt have a folder called "Plugins" in includes/captcha/ , so i created it and put the file there

anyway, i go to my acp and see no optio as stated here:
"To select this plugin after installation: Administration Control Panel > General > Board Configuration > Spambot countermeasures"

all i see there is :

CAPTCHA module settings

no idea what im doing tbh :/

are there any other security systems that dont require a phd in php ? im having a real problem with spam on my forum, so much so ive had to lock the whole thing down ... i tried using the the default word security thing but the spam is still getting thru

I sure hope you or someone else can help, this has really driven me up the wall

oh darn.. nevermind i just saw i had to select it within the "CAPTCHA module settings" page

Also make sure you run phpBB 3.0.9.

er.. acctuly.. um.. no this aint working
i set all the option up in acp,.. submitted the changes, loged out of my forum then tried to created an account i still see the old php defualt one
so i log back in go to acp again to check if its active.. but acp put it back to defualt "GD captcha"
so i select and press summbit... logout, try to register still same default one.. gees
i repeate the above steps about 5 times.. still nothing stil the same defualt

2 things i noticed
even when i select the Sortables one and set up the word options etc i still see no catagory under:
Administration Control Panel > General > Board Configuration > Spambot countermeasures"
i dont have "Spambot countermeasures" only..

and also when selcting the type of captcha system. i notice Sortables is greyed out, but it still lets me select it and set it up

perpahs thats what the issue is then.. im still on 3.0.6 i think .. will upgrading the forum mess things up ? like my theme, posts, settings, bbcode extensions..etc etc will they still be the same if i upgrade?

You need to first configure it and then set it as default. (Make sure it's set to default)

Language variables have been renamed from CAPTCHA module settings to Spambot Countermeasures in the past versions. You should always upgrade to the latest available phpBB version to prevent these kinds of problems:

Make sure you back-up everything, i.e., database and files. (don't forget user uploads) If you run into problems updating, you can find support in the 3.x Support Forum.

however its a no go, im still very much stuck on square 1

no matter what i do, no matter how many times i set it to Sortables ... my acp ALWAYS sets it back to GD (default)
every bloody time, without fail... I dont understand why it dose it.. i have everything set to enable

I dont know why the Sortables is always greyed out, yet it lets me select it and configure it.

I was told that upgrading my php would COMPLETELY destroy my theme design that i spent many many weeks creating, (its not your run of the mill phpbb design).. so up an upgrade is TOTALLY out of the question, at least till I find out a way to upgrade without loosing all my design work... I was however also told that Sortables should and will work on my current phpbb version.

I really haven't a clue what to do next.. i tried all the captcha methods in phpbb default list.. none of them are keeping out spam.. my forum has basicly been locked down for best part of a year. Dose ANYONE know of ANY other good captcha plugins that will keep most spam out, yet be easy enough to install and set-up. This one simply dose not work for me.

Can someone please help or offer any other suggestions other then Sortables.

Time to install = Oh, I dunno 10 days or something, give or take a week.

ok. i managed to install a fresh forum
i installed the sortables on the new forum and it worked no problem
then i changed my style on the forum, now when ppl try to register they see this

from the downloaded sortable files into
http://www.fractalscapes.net/myforum/digital/template/
(NOTE: "myforum" is not the real name of the forum)
but still the same error
:/

You need to make sure your style is updated too. (Only prosilver and subsilver2 are automatically updated by the phpBB updater)

I downloaded the zip file UNZIPPED it and there is no "install.xml" file anywhere or any DIY instructions.....I am in the same boat with spam over run..about 50 a day, it is killing me...HELP PLEASE!!!

Found the install.xml file but now I have to update my forum to the newest version and that is proving to be difficult also.

For general phpBB update support you need to be in 3.x Support Forum.
